Meet Georgie

Georgie is an Exotic Shorthair, i.e., a short-hair version of a Persian cat. He has a flat face, round eyes, round head, stocky neck, stocky body, short legs, and a long, long tail. We do not know how long his coat will be when he is fully matured and when he has had TLC and good food for a few months; he came from a bad situation, and he is busily catching up with his body for past deficits. He has the most stunning coloring: his fur is gray with a hint of brown, and the darker color is charcoal-gray-almost-black; his tail is wonderfully striped, but most importantly, he has absolutely magnificent swirl marks on his flanks, which make him a stunning specimen in terms of looks. Looking a bit deeper, we find a sweet and very cuddly boy, outgoing and people-friendly -- an all around beautiful temperament, matching his visual appeal. He loves to give head-buts and head-nudges, and if you stop petting him before he has enough, he will "paw at you" until he gets more and finally is satisfied. He is a quiet but very interactive fellow! In fact, I picked the "tune" for his video on purpose -- recognize the theme song for one of the James Bond movies? Just like Double-oh-seven, Georgie is hotter than Hades and cool as a cucumber, he is quick and smart and, well, any minute, you expect him to unzip his fur and step out of it in a perfectly starched tuxedo, bow-tie and all!

Georgie had a sad past. As seen on the news in Sept 2008, he was, along with approx 20-30 other Persians, "dumped" and let lose in a public park in the city of Baltimore, MD! Vigilant citizens coaxed seven of the cats to come close enough to be manually picked up and taken into the Baltimore shelter; three of them were immediately adopted by the citizens, and the remaining four (including Georgie) were transferred to Persian Rescue. In spite of tremendous efforts by Animal Control and by rescuers experienced in trapping feral cats, none of the other cats were ever recovered, and God only knows what happened to them... we shudder at the thought.

Upon coming to our rescue, this cat had to get bathed immediately and very badly, as all of the cats were filthy and stinky, from both urine and feces. We had the kitty vetted (distemper vaccines, rabies vaccine, exam, FIV/FeLV test to confirm nonexistence of feline aids and feline leukemia infection), spayed/neutered, and given an ID microchip to assist in finding home should this kitty ever accidentally get out the house. We also treated him for "the sniffles" that all of them caught while outside and/or at the shelter, but that's all history now. Finally, the group of four was put on a high-calorie diet because they were too skinny for their own good.

While two of the four cats are very shy and appear to never have been "handled" and touched by humans, hence they are still terrified, Georgie quickly got his bearings and showed a very outgoing and fun personality. He is a relaxed boy who knows how to ask without words what he wants. This cat is a total winner, and we hope that, with his adoption into a final home, not only will he be lucky but so will the family be who gets to enjoy life with this sweetie.

UPDATE: Georgie went home with a young woman, her room mate, and her boyfriend. All three were enarmored by him (and who wouldn't be), and the seriousness of their questions and thoroughness of their decision-making lets us trust that Georgie is in very good hands, indeed. Paws up, buddy!
