Where Should I Put the Litter Box?
By Dr. Stephanie Janeczko, D.V.M., Medical Director for Animal Care & Control of New York City
And now, a word about location. If you keep your cat's litter box in an out-of-the-way, less-than-pleasant area of the house you are more likely to have a cat who shows his displeasure by going elsewhere.
Dark, cold, or noisy areas (think: basement next to the washing machine) are one of our favorite places to put litter boxes and one of our cats' least favorite places to go. You don't have to keep it front and center in your living room, but do try to come up with a compromise that doesn't ask your cat to go above and beyond the call of duty every time he needs to go for a pee!
