Two pups suffering from mange are saved

Share

The Petfinder Foundation‘s grant to Animal Aid for Vermilion Area helped the organization save two sick puppies suffering from severe mange and other ailments.

“Bourbon and Bayou, two Pit Bull mixes, were rescued from [another] shelter,” says AAVA’s Roxanne Bayard. Both dogs were emaciated and full of hookworms, roundworms and tapeworms — and both had terrible cases of demodectic mange and staph infections.

The brown pup, Bourbon, was so anemic from the hookworms that he required a life-saving emergency blood transfusion. Both pups are now in a loving foster home (where they are attended to by the foster family’s adoring 3-year-old daughter) and they continue to make progress on their way to being healthy enough for adoption.

“These dogs captured our hearts,” Bayard says, “and because of this grant, we were able to step up and help.”
