Show us your dirty dog to help homeless pets!

A dog may never be happier than when he’s snout-deep in the mud, and every day during October, my Petfinder Foundation inbox has been brimming with giggle-inducing photos of gleefully filthy pooches. As part of our Dirty Dogs Contest with Wahl, we’re encouraging pet parents to submit photos of their dirty dogs for a chance to win up to $5,000 for their favorite Petfinder shelter or rescue. The results so far have been a pleasure to see, and you still have until the end of October to enter the contest and win $5,000 for your favorite animal-rescue group, too!
So far we’ve heard stories about dogs like Winston, a Westie who loves to roll around in Oklahoma red dirt; puppies Pringles and Pickme, who relished playing in a mud mound during an afternoon sun shower; and Zoe Grace, who couldn’t help but explore the murky recesses of the fish pond.
Some of our favorite entries are of atypically dirty dogs like Mitch (at right), a Pug who sullied his face in quite the creative way.
“The first weekend we got him, he opened up a kitchen cabinet and attempted to eat a whole box of pancake mix,” Mitch’s mom Joanne Blaauboer tells us. “When we came home from church, we were met with his flour covered face. After 7 kids, we finally had to put child locks on our cabinet doors!”
You have until midnight EST on Oct. 31 to enter your dog’s photo to the contest. We’ll announce the 25 finalists on Nov. 5, and then the public will vote for their favorite Dirty Dog through Nov. 19. In addition to the $5,000 grand prize for the Petfinder shelter or rescue nominated by the winner, the second- and third-place winners will get to pick their favorite animal-rescue group to receive $1,000. The winners will also receive Wahl grooming products to use on their filthy pooches at home.
Let the contestant slideshow below inspire you to go out with your dog, let her get dirty, and enter her photo to win $5,000 for your favorite shelter or rescue!
