Pit Bull Parent: When is it Time?

Pit Bull Parent: When is it Time?

ZOOTOO  Tue, Feb 11

With the holidays recently, we were spending more time with family. My dad lives about an hour away and we headed to his place the other day to visit with him. He has 2 dogs, an older dog and a younger dog. The older dog is a medium sized dog and she's about 15 years old. His younger dog is a 2 year old, large, fuzzy, bouncy fool. Anyway, his 15 year old dog has been slowing down for some time now. She has some arthritis. She's thinning quite a bit. And, the other day, we noted a large lump ...

Romeo's Wood Floor Wake up Tactic

Romeo's Wood Floor Wake up Tactic

ZOOTOO  Mon, Feb 10

Oh boy, there are SO many fantastic ways to wake up one’s staff. Don’t mind us..just havin’ a little fun. This morning my reluctant partner-in-crime (that’s the black cat Pugsley) and I discovered that if we run up the stairs at full speed we make fantastic creaky noises and awesome paw pounding noises. So, we played chase and I pursued Pugsley all over the house, up and down the stairs several times (pound-creak-pound-pound-CREAK-pound-pound-pound-creak) ...

Happy Tail: Aussie's long year ends in adoption

ZOOTOO  Thu, Feb 6

Beauregard, who had been at the Montgomery [AL] Humane Society most of his first year, was very shy. He had been rescued from an abusive home, and so far, no one had adopted him. When the shelter spotlighted him as Pet of the Month on its Petfinder website, his luck changed. Learn why Petfinder believes all dog should wear tags and collars — like Cooper. Amy Johnson of Birmingham, AL, had always had pets, but when she went to college, balancing work, school and other ...

Happy Tail: A Schnauzer mix settles into a new role

Happy Tail: A Schnauzer mix settles into a new role

ZOOTOO  Tue, Feb 4

A chew toy makes Cleveland a happy dog. An alpha cat pretty much ruled the roost at the Sinker house, but Linda and Joel wanted a dog. They knew it would take a special sort of pup, so they began browsing on Petfinder and even went to home visits, but not one of them seemed as if he or she would fit in. And that’s important for peace and harmony in the house. For the Sinkers, who live in Georgetown, ON, the ah-ha moment came when they spotted a  Schnauzer /Terrier mix described ...

Romeo's Nose Vs. Nose Wake up Tactic

Romeo's Nose Vs. Nose Wake up Tactic

ZOOTOO  Mon, Feb 3

I believe one should always use all means possible to get what one wants. And, like every other morning, this morning I wanted BREAKFAST. Though it be but little, it is fierce! I alerted the sleeping staff to my desires via several meows, yet they paid no attention and continued their snoozing. Then, I jumped off the bed, went to get a drink of water and returned, hoping in the interim they might have awoken. They did not. So, I used one of my most powerful weapons. I stuck ...

You helped protect 900 birds from the Black Forest Fire

You helped protect 900 birds from the Black Forest Fire

ZOOTOO  Sat, Feb 1

When the Black Forest Fire blazed across Colorado last June, The Gabriel Foundation , which cares for nearly 900 homeless birds at its Elizabeth, Colo., aviary and adoption center, asked the Petfinder Foundation for help. Because birds have such delicate respiratory systems, their lives were in danger from the region’s polluted air — so we rushed a $1,500 disaster grant to the group so it could buy air filters that would protect members of their flock like Monet (below). ...

Considering your taxes? Don't forget your foster pets!

ZOOTOO  Thu, Jan 30

Tax deductions for foster pets might help you. Do you need another excuse to foster a homeless pet? Love the idea of fostering but fear the potential costs? How about a tax deduction?
