What Is Canine Distemper?

Distemper is a dangerous and highly contagious virus that attacks dogs.

It's so serious, it is one of only four diseases veterinarians recommend all dogs get vaccinated against (the other three are rabies, parvovirus and adenovirus, the virus that causes hepatitis).

Distemper affects numerous systems in a dog's body, including the respiratory, gastrointestinal and central nervous systems. It's incurable and was once the leading cause of death in puppies.
