Treatments for Staph Infection in Dogs
Treatment for your dog's staph infection can include oral antibiotics in addition to topical antiseptics or antibiotics. Be sure to give your dog oral antibiotics for as long as directed by the vet. If you cut off the antibiotics too early (even the dog's symptoms have disappeared), you might not get rid of all of the infection. This can leave the strongest surviving bacteria to multiply and build up a resistance to further treatment.
Topical treatments, which come in the form of shampoos or gels, are no substitute for oral antibiotics, but they can be a good complement. They may relieve any irritation your dog experiences while making his skin less hospitable to the bacteria.
