Constipation in Dogs

Megacolon and Obstipation

When your dog becomes so constipated that she can't eliminate without outside help -- or she is chronically constipated -- it's called obstipation.

A disorder called megacolon occurs when the dog's colon is enlarged irreversibly; it also causes chronic constipation.

For both of these conditions, enemas, manual extraction of feces or surgery can be necessary.
