Dog Breeds at Risk for Bloat
While bloat can occur in any dog, it's commonly accepted that dogs with deep chests (a higher depth-to-width ratio) are more prone to the disorder. That puts the following breeds at higher risk:
- Akitas
- Basset Hounds
- Boxers
- Doberman Pinschers
- German Shepherds
- Gordon Setters
- Great Danes
- Irish Setters
- Weimaraners
- Saint Bernards
- Standard Poodles
