Common Dog Skin Problems

Dog Skin Problems: Introduction

Jennifer Sellers

Like humans, our pets suffer from many skin problems. Understanding the dermatological difficulties your dog may face will help you can tackle them as quickly as you do your own.

How to Tell if Your Dog Has Skin Problems

If your dog has a skin issue -- often referred to as dermatitis -- he probably isn't hiding it.

Telltale signs include excessively scratching, biting or licking himself, or frequently rubbing his face or body against furniture and carpeting.

And when you're petting him, you may notice a few other indicators, such as scabs, scaly patches, hot spots, flakes, bald patches, rashes, lumps, lesions or skin discoloration.

Read on for the most common causes of skin problems in dogs.
