A "SPECIAL" DAY
Big black dogs. FIV+ cats. Senior pets. Special needs pets. Many factors can make a pet seem "less adoptable." To promote these animals, Petfinder has designated August 12 as "Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day."

HERE'S WHAT YOU SAID
In June we asked what you would say to encourage adopters to consider adding a senior pet to their families. These responses pretty much sum it up:
Margaret: I volunteer at a shelter. I see the puppies go (and sometimes come back as older guys when the cuteness wears off), but I tell everyone who asks that I would take an older pup over a youngster any day. Their love and faithfulness are treasures that cannot be replaced.
Yvette: A senior has lived though it all, as they say, "Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt." They are unflappable...(usually) housebroken, without the chewing stages those rascally puppies often go though. They are patient and kind and, above all, full of love and grateful for the day they came into your life. They have that sense of being rescued that they will never forget.
Kate: I can't say enough good about the warmth and love that you get from a senior pet...they are just so glad to find a forever home that they know is theirs they just pour it out.
Thanks so much for responding to our question.
