Note from Our Founder

Dear Friends,

Meet Mojo Saunders (below). He is one of my favorite Pit Bulls — a smiling ambassador for a breed that needs ambassadors. In honor of this special week to celebrate the Pit Bull, I am asking you to be an ambassador as well. Please visit Petfinder and do a special search on Pit Bulls — you'll find about 10,000 for adoption. If one catches your eye, email her to a friend, add him to your Facebook page or print her page and stick it up on a bulletin board at your office. If each of you reading this will reach out to help one Pit Bull, we can really celebrate next week when we see those Pit Bull adoptions soar. Not sure about Pit Bulls? Read on for more information about a hot Pit Bull issue that may affect your community.

Happy Tail:
Bullish for Bullies

From Christine S. of New Jersey:

With all of the negative press out there about Pit Bulls, I feel it is important to spread the news about what a wonderful pet we have found in our very own bully-girl. My husband and I were interested in adopting a dog that was at least one year old and not aggressive towards our beloved cats. I spotted Olive one day, remarking how similar to "Petey" from the Little Rascals she seemed, and decided we should investigate further. We went to the John A. Bukowski Shelter for Animals and visited with her. The instant I saw her smiling doggie face, I was hooked! ...continued

Olive was adopted from John A. Bukowski Shelter for Animals in Bloomfield, N.J.

HERE'S WHAT YOU SAID
Last month we asked what famous person inspired your pet's name, and the answers poured in. Celebrities from movies, TV and sports ranked highest. Sinatra was a three-time favorite. Some readers were inspired by fictional characters like Molly Bloom, Sancho Panza, TV's Alf, and Daphne and Roz from the TV show Frasier. Inventor Charles Kettering was honored with a namesake, and an Alamo hero, William Travis, was remembered as well.
Our personal favorite? Jim and Gail White's tribute to 93-year-old blues guitarist David "Honeyboy" Edwards.
