Note from Our Founder

Dear Friends,

The word anthropomorphize (ascribing human characteristics to non-humans) carries a lot of negative baggage to scientists. But I personally believe that anthropomorphizing is a vital step toward humane treatment. All my heroes are "guilty" of anthropomorphizing when making decisions about their pets, their neighborhood strays, or the farm animals that end up on someone's dinner plate. Dogs on chains, cats itching from fleas, chickens in tiny cages - these things become unacceptable as soon as we imagine a little of ourselves in these creatures. So go ahead, do unto others...

After a rough year and a half, losing our home in a flood and trying to find another house, we had finally settled into our new home. My family and I decided that we were ready to get a dog...I went to Petfinder.com and starting searching local shelters, knowing that a dog on there would need a home as much as we did. That is how I found Fendi. She jumped right out at me...She is an awesome dog. Thank you for helping us find her and bringing her into our lives.

Fendi was adopted from HEART Animal Rescue & Adoption Team Inc. in Hamburg, N.Y.

...My boss has been nice enough to let me bring Jack to work on the weekends during tax season. He's a real morale booster and makes everyone laugh. After he has made the rounds and checked everyone's office for any stray morsels of food, he settles down under my desk for a nice long snooze.

WE CARE! CARE AND FEEDING GRANTS
Petfinder.com Foundation recently awarded Care and Feeding Grants to animal shelters in six cities to purchase enough vaccines to inoculate all their incoming canines against kennel cough* for approximately one year.

Funding for this program is made possible by donations from people like you and in partnership with the Animal Rescue Site's click-to-give program and GreaterGood.org.

*Did you know? Kennel cough is a contagious virus similar to the common cold in humans. Many dogs in shelters that contract the virus are euthanized because of the cost and length of treatment.
