Note from
Our Founder
Dear Friends,
At year's end we celebrate all the adoptions of homeless pets during 2007. It warms my heart to think of those pets enjoying their first holiday seasons with their new families. I want to thank you for your concern for homeless pets and to encourage you to continue spreading the word to your friends and loved ones: Don’t visit pet stores that sell dogs and cats — they support puppy and kitten mills. Instead, spread the word about Petfinder.com to help us in our mission to stop the euthanasia of adoptable pets.

Happy Tail: Holiday Hopes
Submitted by Nicole LaGala from Snohomish, Wash.:
Clyde was very shy when we met him, but despite this, we knew he was coming home with us…He has become my best friend. I see a sense of innocence in him, and even maybe a bit of gratefulness, with every treat and pat he receives. Slowly, his personality is emerging, and I hope he can learn that affection and attention are things that he deserves…I feel good when he expresses his happiness at seeing me, and it's all because we've chosen to give him his forever home. I highly recommend adopting a pet from your local shelter.
Clyde was adopted from Progressive Animal Welfare Society, Lynnwood, Wash.

HERE’S WHAT YOU SAID!
HOW DO YOU MAKE THE HOLIDAYS
SPECIAL FOR YOUR PET?
In November, we asked how you celebrate the holidays with your pets. Mainly, we learned, people share the bountiful harvest (ham, sweet potatoes, turkey) with their pets. Here are a few other responses:
• A.J. Hubeny decorates the outside wall of her guinea pigs’ cage with Christmas wrapping paper and lets them play underneath the tree when out for exercise. Her cats get holiday collars and enjoy playing in the wrapping paper after presents are opened.
• The Somers got their pug, their grandpug and their great-grandpug together for Thanksgiving. It was spug-tacular!
• Terri Maria takes her Shih Tzu, Rosie, for a picture with Santa and reminds us how she makes her house safe for Rosie during the holidays: no tinsel in the house and shatterproof ornaments. Wires for lights are out of reach. No chocolate or other things that might make Rosie ill. Good advice.

HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS
Holidays! A great time for people, but not always so great for pets. Make sure your furry friends have up-to-date ID tags and that all visitors know to keep outside doors closed. Give shy pets a retreat where they can go when they're feeling overwhelmed. Candles and space heaters are especially dangerous. Make sure they are inaccessible to your pets. Make the holidays safe and fun for you and your pets.
