Things to Think About When Hosting Demonstrations

FUN
Demonstrations should be educational, fun, and interactive. Invite outside groups to showcase their skills.

LARGE AREA
Make sure you have a large enough area, away from the crowd, so no one gets hurt.

CONFIRMATIONS
Send out written confirmations on schedule, arrival times, and other information, in advance.

PERMITS
Obtain all permits for entertainment and selling materials if necessary. Check on whether you need to pay sales tax on items sold.

VOLUNTEERS
Assign volunteers to help the demonstrations set up.

MASTER OF CEREMONIES (MC)
Designate one person to be an MC. This person should be entertaining and funny. Ask them to make regular educational announcements.

OPENING CEREMONY
Have an opening ceremony. Write a script. Remember to thank both staff and volunteers.

CELEBRITIES
People love celebrities but have a plan to keep them away from the crowd if needed.

PRESS Press photo opportunities shots are important but make sure they don't interfere with the demonstration.

THEME
Create a theme and ask demonstrations, volunteers and walkers to dress according to that theme.

CLEAN UP
With information and fun comes garbage. Have a plan for clean-up time.

THANK YOU'S
Remember to send a thank you to all volunteers and demonstration participants. Ask for their suggestions to make next year's event better.
