Web Site Basics

Even the smallest rescue needs a Web site these days. A site will reach more people than you could ever hope to reach otherwise. It is the simplest way to let the world know about the work you're doing, what you stand for, and most important, what pets you have available for adoption. It can be and, for your purposes, it should be a very inexpensive tool.

If you don't know how to make a Web site, you have two choices - you can learn, or you can turn the task over to someone else. Read more...

Browser Updates

Is it time to update your browser?

The Web is changing every day, and companies that produce Web browsers are fighting to keep up. They produce "patches" to help keep up with their customers' needs, but installing all these patches on your browser tends to make the browsers finicky. It can also cause them to develop little glitches and bugs all by themselves over time. Not installing them, however, means you run the risk of your browser not being able to handle something out there on the Web.

Are you experiencing any of the following items?

  • You get the message "cgi-lib.pl: reached end of input while seeking boundary of multipart. Format of CGI input is wrong."
  • You get "This page cannot be found push refresh," but when you do what it says, you get a "time limit inactivity page."
  • When trying to add a pet, you hit SAVE at the bottom. It pauses awhile, then gives you a "This page can not be found" error.
  • You get the message, "IExplore caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 014f:bff782af."
  • You get Java errors or warnings about cookie errors.
  • Things like buttons or links (that others can see) are missing from some pages you go to.
  • Some Web pages lock up your system, causing you to have to restart your browser or, even worse, Windows itself.

All of these are indications that it's probably time to update your browser, or reinstall it, if you have a recent version. Lucky for us, the updates are free. You just need to follow the instructions on the Web site for the particular browser you use. You can find the newest versions at these addresses:
