Web Site Basics

Even the smallest rescue needs a Web site these days. A site will reach more people than you could ever hope to reach otherwise. It is the simplest way to let the world know about the work you're doing, what you stand for, and most important, what pets you have available for adoption. It can be and, for your purposes, it should be a very inexpensive tool.

Image Editor Program

Edit pictures with this free, easy-to-use program.

Download the file by clicking here.

Once you have downloaded the file, click on it. This will install the program.

After the program is installed, run the program, and click on FILE on the menu bar at the top. Then select OPEN from the drop down menu.

Browse for the image file you wish to edit, highlight it, then select OPEN. The image file you wish to edit will appear.

You may CROP, RE-SIZE the graphic and then SAVE it by following the instructions below.

To Crop the Image

  1. Place your cursor on the upper left-hand corner of the image and press down on the left click button on your mouse and hold. A box should appear as you move your cursor across the image. Drag the box down to the lower right of the image. Once you are satisfied with the box, release the mouse button. The box should now surround the image. If you are not satisfied with the box, simply try again.

  2. Next, click EDIT on the menu bar at the top.

  3. Then, select CROP from the drop down menu. Now you have successfully cropped the image.

To Re-size the Image

  1. First, Click on the IMAGE on the menu bar at the top. Select RE-SIZE/RESAMPLE from the drop down menu. (Make sure the box marked preserve aspect ratio is checked.)

  2. Then click the dot next to NEW SIZE. Under NEW SIZE change the width or height (whichever one is larger) to 500 pixels (the other will change automatically).

  3. Finally, Click OK..

To Save the File

  1. Click on FILE on the menu bar at the top. Select SAVE AS from the drop down menu.

  2. Give the Picture a new name. (Remember the name of the file that you save. You will need to retrieve it later.)

  3. Make sure the SAVE AS TYPE drop down reads (*.JPG) JPEG-Files.

  4. Click SAVE
