Photo Upload Help
Picture Does Not Appear
If you have uploaded a pet picture, but it does not show up on the pets page or your pet list right away, don't worry. There is a short lag time between when you upload photos and when they appear on the live system. They go into a buffer directory where they get approved (usually once every hour or so).
In the photo column of your pet list administration page, you'll see a letter, "U" or "A". A "U" means the photo has been uploaded and is waiting to go live. An "A" means it is active on the live system. To ensure that your photos have uploaded properly, you can click on the "U" in the photo column. If you see a photo, your picture will be sent along to the live system shortly.
Note that if you have picture previews on, instead of seeing a "U", you will see your photo in parenthesis. Also, instead of seeing an "A", you would see your photo without parenthesis.
Refresh the Page
If you have uploaded a picture to a pet's profile, and your list shows an "A", but you don't see the picture appear on the pet notes page, then you may just need to press refresh/reload (or the F5 key) on the page you're viewing. Sometimes web browsers store recently viewed pages so that you don't have to re-download the entire page. However, if the content has recently changed (such as adding/deleting an animal or text), they will not appear until you refresh the page and force your web browser to display the most recent version of the page and graphics.
Also note that the built in AOL web browser often has difficulty refreshing or reloading a page. In this case, you should connect to AOL as usual, then minimize the entire AOL program and load Internet Explorer. You can then navigate to your web page with Internet Explorer, which should be able to properly reload the page.
File Size & Format
The file size can't be larger than 50k, the picture size can't be larger than 500 X 500 pixels, and it should be in JPEG (.jpg) format. Simply renaming the file with a (.jpg) extension does not make the file a JPEG.
If you get an error, then you've uploaded a file that got corrupted in transmission or, more likely, a file that is not really a jpeg file (even though it may be named *.jpg). If you are trying to upload a photo and the system gives an error, when you're sending (or if you get an error message that says "too much data"), then your photo file is too large. Consider saving it with lower resolution (fewer pixels) or with fewer colors (256 colors rather than millions of colors) or simply crop out the background and make it physically smaller.
If you do not understand the terms above or you are in need of a program to do this for you, you can now get one, for free, on our Image Editor Program page.
