Petfinder.com Help

To show a pet's picture and a link to its pet note page:

To highlight a single pet on a web page:
You may reference a pet photo on your home page by including the following in your html:

<a href="http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi&petid=12345">
<img src= "http://photocache.petfinder.com/fotos/NJ94/NJ94.12345-1-x.jpg"
><br>CHECKERS!</a>

Notice the extra /NJ94 in the link, this is not a typo. Also notice the -1-x.jpg. This will display the first photo for this animal. Changing it to -2-x.jpg will display the second photo of this particular animal, and changing it to -3-x.jpg will display the third photo for this animal.

Note: This code will access pet #12345 from shelter NJ94. This is just an example. You'll need change the shelter ID as well as the petfinder animal ID in both these lines to reflect your animal. Pet animal IDs can be found to the left of the pets name on your "Home/Pet List" page. If this method of code is not working for your photo, then this means that you added the photo before the introduction of our new 3-photo feature. Re-uploading the photo will fix this.

To have a random pet appear from your list each time a web page is loaded:

You can use the Featured Pet Module:
http://www.petfinder.com/tools/featuredpet/
to create the code to use on any web site to feature your pets. Be sure to paste the code 'as html' if using a web page editing program.

Print this flyer to give to businesses whose web page you would like your pets featured on:

To share your 'happy tail' adoption stories:

Has one of your animals recently been adopted? You don't have to delete them from your account. Instead, show them off as a "Happy Tail"! Here's what you need to do:

  1. Log into your account as usual. This will bring you to the Home/Pet list. Just click on the name of the animal that has been adopted.

  2. You'll notice "Animal Status" in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click the drop down arrow to select "Adopted". Scroll down to the bottom and click "Update Pet"

  3. Your animal will now immediately appear when somebody clicks on the "Happy Tails" link on your home page. They will no longer appear when you click on the "Our Pet List" link.

Don't have a "Happy Tails" link on your home page yet?

  1. Log into your account as usual. On the upper left hand corner of the screen, you'll see "Click here for links to add to your home page to show off your adopted pets!". Click on that link.

  2. You will then be shown a series of code that you would need to place on your home page, depending on which Happy Tails you want to display.

  3. Example: You want to display all adopted animals for your shelter. Under the area "ALL PETS", highlight all of the text starting with <a href and ending with </a> Right click, and copy this text. Next, click on your "Edit Home Page" link. Right click and paste that special text into the text box. A good place to paste this text is right under your "Out Pet List" link. You can "Preview" your changes then click the "Save HTML File" button once you are satisfied with the placement of the link.

Web Site Basics

Even the smallest rescue needs a Web site these days. A site will reach more people than you could ever hope to reach otherwise. It is the simplest way to let the world know about the work you're doing, what you stand for, and most important, what pets you have available for adoption. It can be and, for your purposes, it should be a very inexpensive tool.

If you don't know how to make a Web site, you have two choices - you can learn, or you can turn the task over to someone else. Read more...
