I voted dyson. They are just better. We have had both. Dyson has lasted longer and picked up hair better... Laughing

I like the Dyson better, but the cleaning lady loves my Oreck.
I got it for half price, here is the phone number and info:

I got a letter in the mail from the Humane Society. Apparently, they have some sort of a deal worked out with Oreck that allows them to sell a specific model of the Oreck (I called Oreck and they said it was equivalent to the 3600) for 50% off. Plus, a portion of the proceeds go to the humane society. So, you pay $149.99 (plus 29.95 shipping) and get the $360 Oreck. You don't get the free iron and the free handheld vacuum though. So, it's a tradeoff. (it's 1-800-266-3249 for those who are interested)
This is old info, but might still be in effect. Doesn't hurt to try if you get it for half price.

We've had our Oreck for a while now. Maybe 5 years? I'm not sure. My dad recently had to fix the cord because it was fraying. It is very loud and occasionally we wear ear plug things with it. Benny is afraid of the sound. He runs away when it comes near him.

mom2dogs- We have carpet, tile, hardwood floors, and linoleum, and the Oreck can vacuum all of them.

I just ordered a second hand kirby on ebay after I had an in home demo. Could not afford the $1900 they wanted for a new but got mine for $250 including shipping.
Check them out the new ones there are very comparable in price to the dyson...not sure of oreck.
I am so impressed with it...I actually enjoy vacumming and can steam clean too.....with two 13 year old dogs in the house that is a major bonus Rolling Eyes what else can I say...I'm sold!

I had a Dirt Devil, I went for the cheapest on a whim. That just broke after a year and a half, when we moved in here they left an older Oreck, I really like it except that you can't get corners or against walls very good.

OT-just a little hint about corners and against walls. Wear a rubber sole shoe and scrape the hair (etc.) away with it and then hit it with the vacuum. Wink

I have a very expensive Rainbow vacumm that I bought about 15 yrs
ago, it works great, but I need to go to a chiropractor after lugging it
thru the house. I have an Oreck and I like it sorta but it does not get
into corners where the dog hair loves to hide, and that little vacumm they
give you is a total piece of --I have a Potty Mouth--. Overrall the Oreck is great for everyday
cleaning but for deep cleaning I just don't feel like it works that great

Shaye - I'll take your dyson if you are going to ship it! I LOVE mine! I have never had anything suck like that thing does. I have 10 cats and 3 dogs and that thing has never plugged and it still picks up like it did the first day I used it. I love the long hose on it - I can do my whole staircase with the vacuum on the main floor. I think it is worth every penny I paid for it. I have had it over a year now and have only washed the filter out once. It just doesn't get dirty!

And I agree with Melinda - it is so easy to empty. Even my 5 y/o nephew can do it. Very Happy

I worship my Dyson. We've got 4 cats, 2 puppies, a bird who loves to throw food around, a dying Christmas tree, and oh yeah 2 people in the house and you'd never know it when you look at the rugs and floors!

Shaye, you can always send yours over this way. Laughing

Anyone willing to give up a Dyson can send it to me. I will be glad to open up the first Dyson rescue. I love my Dyson. My Hoover windtunnel would constantly clog. The Dyson has never clogged and it is so easy to empty. The hoover would always clog at the point where the bag would join the vacuum. I usually ended up with more dirt on me than in the vacuum after I removed the clog. I have never had an Oreck so I really can't say which of the two is better. Good Luck with which ever vacuum you end up getting. Very Happy

I love my torquise and purple dyson! I have had it over a year and a half and it by far beats any vacuum I have ever had- including the Rainbow we used to have.

Dyson lovers:

Is it true that it is difficult to get under furniture (like beds)?

Does anyone own a Dyson canister vac?

Does anyone own a Miele?
