| I havent ever had an Oreck, so I cant vote fairly.......but I LOVE my Dyson. It makes my Hoover Windtunnel seem like a piece of junk. However, the one thing I dont like about it is that you have to attach the low reach tool to get under tables and whatnot. That is a little annoying. |

We have an Oreck. My mom likes it because it's light. The bags are very expensive, but they just came out with a bagless. The one thing I don't like about it is that it's so LOUD. I think it needs a muffler _________________

I am tired of having to buy three or four vacuums a year so I need one that is gonna last atleast a year. I need one that can stand picking up tons of dog hair. I am not a big fan of the bagless ones but I will give em a go again if its a really good vacuum. I don't want something that is heavy or huge either since this space is cramped a smaller one would be better. I just move my furniture to vacuum then move it back so vacuuming under it won't be a prob.
My recent vacuum that burnt up was so loud you darn near had to wear ear plugs to stand it. Everytime I would vacuum Alley would run to her room and shut the door with her hands over her ears. |

maine, I was gonna post this very topic! My Oreck has been great. I've had it since 1990. The poor thing is finally tired. Roger and I have been trying to decide whether to get another Oreck or try the Dyson. I don't like the idea of a bagless, really because of the dog hair. When you order the Oreck, it comes with a years supply of bags. I might get both and see which one is the best.
Good luck with your choice,
Nita |

I used an Orek at work, and I liked it, it was very lightweight and picked up sand and other heavy debris. However, I love my dyson, I like bagless because I always forget to change the bags until they explode. _________________ Show me your horse and I will tell you who you are. ~Unknown |

Kirby!
Side story - Shortly after I began seeing my BF I had a Kirby salesman show up at my door (they ~still~ do door to door! ) shortly before Dave came over. He was a lil upset that I'd let in a stranger while home by myself (apparently growing up out in the boondocks has not engendered a healthy enough fear of strangers in me ) but then told me he used to sell Kirby's also.
At any rate, he still has the age-old Kirby that was originally his parents, thing's gotta be older than me but still works great (much better than my year old Hoover at any rate!). |

Thx pup. But, I don't have enough money for both. Oreck gives you 30 days to decide if you want to keep it or send it back. AND, they pay the shipping BOTH ways. I'll let everyone know what I think after I check them out.

Totally true, but unfair cuz Kirby is commercial-weight!
We have an upright Dyson for our fur herd. However...
Now that we are experenced and have bonded with our vaccum because of the Huskies, I would really suggest a
- cannister-type bagless
- or whole-house system
We really need a broad head pickup on cleaning wand all the time to get around the furniture, and we have pretty much all hard floors, so any upright is of limited use. And with the amount of fur we pull up (think barber shop), a year's worth of bags would last a month! |

You people who dont like bagless are crazy! Crazy, I say!
One of my favorite features on my Dyson is that I just have to hold the canister over the trashcan and pull the release lever.......the bottom unhinges and the stuff falls out. I dont have to mess with it at all. |

I have a friend that owns a cleaning company.... go with the Oreck. In her educated opinion, Dysons are okay but NOT worth the rediculous price tag. I'd say they suck, but that would be a compliment to a vaccuum... |

Shaye, I thought you loved your Dyson? What happened??
I am in the same quandry... my mom is getting an Oreck (because she has a bad back and has problems carrying her Hoover up the stairs) and they have a deal now that if you buy one Oreck XL, you get the second at 1/2 price. She offered to buy the second one for me...
I was considering the Dyson (and have a nice Costco gift card $$ that will help with the purchase price!! ) but I heard that it is a pain to get UNDER anything, and the collapsible hose part is wonky.
I have a beat up Sharp right now; it was the best rated vaccuum by Consumer Reports about 10 yrs ago I think its time to retire it...
I have carpet, wood floors and tile... I hear the Oreck transitions from one to the other quite nicely. I have lots of furniture that I need to vacuum under (beds, tables, etc.) and hear the Dyson is too large to get under most. I love bagless vacs, but will "suck it up" and go w/ a bagged vac if I must.
Someone tell me what to do???? |

I am gonna be looking at getting my vacuum sometime within this month. Waiting on the tax return or hubbys profit sharing check to be able to afford a good one.
I watch too many infomercials so from the infomercial I really wanna give Oreck a test however I want a vacuum that can withstand the hairy household I have, dog hair, cat hair, our hair, oh yeah and the cat litter and sometimes little fish gravel and teeny tiny toys I overlook. So umm yeah a vacuum really has to be up to snuff to last around this house. Oh but the plus side is we do have an Oreck shop here.
I bought a shop vac this past year on recommendation and well I only used it once then traded it to my aunt for her upright.
I hate kirby hate hate hate them, they are heavy and cost a darn fortune and are too big for my house, not to mention a complete pita to put together so sorry no kirby for me.
Every bagless I bought I had to empty the darn canister three or more times for one room and trust me I do not have a big trailer. Then it would get the chows hair and gsd hairr all gunked up in the filter things and when I would take the cup out to empty there goes dust and hair dumping out the filter onto my floor! What a complete waste of money there.
I had one that worked great for a month but sis accidentally vacuumed Alleys hair up in it and since then it has not worked. Poor Alley had some awesome layers though once the singed parts were off.
Send it this way shaye it might last a week or two around here!
Maybe I will buy a windtunnel and either an oreck or dyson animal! I was gonna scope out ebay for the dyson if I choose to buy that one. (note to potential adopters out there chow and gsd hair is no joke) |
