Okay, right now I've been feeding my one and a half year old female Miniature Pinscher Natural Choice Lamb & Rice Small Bites. Is that a good choice of food? The price sure does seem to say so!LOL Laughing Anyway, she seems to be healthy and everything,I just want to make sure she is eating healthy foods. Also,I have been feeding her 1 tablespoon of wet Pedigree food and MarroBones.I've heard that that is a horrible food.Is that true?If so,I will stop feeding her that immediately!Thnx in advance!

I would say Nutro Natural Choice is one of the decent foods. It's not one of the super premiums, but it's not a junk food either. It's just in the middle. I fed all 3 of my pets Natural Choice when I first started trying out premium brands, and I liked how they did. I got better results from Natural Balance, though, and yet even better results on Sensible Choice and Royal Canin.

I fed Nutro for a while too. I think it's a good food for your money. There are foods that are better, but if you're on a limited budget, it's quite good.
Chicken Soup is supposed to be comparable in price as well, although in DC it's actually much more expensive. You might be luckier though!

As long as you don't notice any tummy upset, allergies, dry skin, etc...I'm sure Nutro will be just fine. (At one point, I bought Nutro and mixed it with a super premium food just to make it a bit better but keeping it cost effective.)

I can't really vote, because I am not currently feeding any of those foods.
However, out of those choices, the only ones I would personally ever use are.... Innova & Chicken Soup.

As far as the Nutro Natural goes, if you are limited to Petsmart and Petco only. I would upgrade to the following foods instead.

Blue (Petsmart)
Nutro Natural ULTRA (Petsmart & Petco)
Natural Balance (Petco)

The reason is because unless a dog has a known food allergin issue, I prefer to have more then one source of meet in their kibble. I'm also not thrilled to see the "dried egg product", there's really not much nutrition in that, but seeing egg in there can throw many people off, there's lots and lots of rice! The fiber is high because of it 5%, I don't like to see it that high typically.
And for a small breed dog, the protein is a tad low for my taste, at 21%.

Get rid of the Pedigree canned, not worth your money. Upgrade to a canned version of the 3 foods I listed above (Well Blue Buffalo still has yet to make a canned food line.)

Cheers!

Penny:

Well I personally would not feed a dog Nutro Max, but then again I wouldn't feed Nutro Natural Choice either. However... out of the two, just stay away from the Nutro Max Wink
It seems every new line of food that Nutro puts out, they are improving upon it, which is good!

It won't let me vote. I feed Barf/Raw

Nutro is OK, but there are a lot better brands out there. Innova and Chicken Soup are better and Chicken Soup is about the same price as Nutro.

The canned Pedigree and Marrow Bones are HORRIBLE. Canned is OK for dogs, it's actually better for them because there is less grains in it, but just go with the better brands and mix it in with the kibble if you want. Most of the better dog foods also have a line of treats you could use to if you really wanted to use those. (Like Wellness, they make some good ones)

My guys get fed BARF/raw as well.

When we travel, I use EVO.

Our buy was on Natural Choice when he arrived, his skin, coat (what was left of it - it had been shaved) was dry and flaky. We soon discovered that he didn't tolerate any grain at all.

Our girl when she arrived into foster was on IAMs (the choice of her surrender family) awful stuff and especially for a collie, it just burns their coats. She's doing much better on the BARF but the jury will be out for at least another 5 months to actually see a solid improvement.

Neither of my guys (as is quite often seen in collies) can tolerate flaxseed oil. So they get arctic vigour as their omega 3 supplement.

Likeit: Have you tried arctic vigour?
