It doesn't let me vote, but I use a clip/buckle flat collar on dogs most of the time, but if I'm doing a transport and leaving the car, or we're walking near a street, I use a choke as a backup only. The leash is clipped to both the flat collar and the end of the choke chain, so that the choke ONLY tightens if the dog has slipped the flat collar and is running off. It's an emergency restraint, because god knows I don't need my transport dogs running off at a rest stop or into the street or something!!

My dog, Footy, has a few colors. He has his everyday nylon color (purple with white pawprints on it), and he had two "choke" chains. I say "choke" because one of them is silver plated and the other is gold plated (it's fake and cheap but really shiny) and they're on him strickly for "bling bling" purposes. We don't connect the actual leash to them. The gold one on him looks rather striking.

Martingales, none of them with chains.
Fancy ones from mrsbones.com for Brooklyn since she doesn't scratch and mess it all up like Georgia or Brandy.
Hemp martigale collars from shoredog or earthdog for Brandy and Georgia.

When we're traveling with our dog we only take him out when he's in his safty belt/harness so there is no chance what-so-ever of him slipping out of anything.

They always wear buckle collars when they are not in the house. They are spoiled monsters, and they have fancy Coach collars. The two girls have the Coach signature logo khaki collars with pink leather trim and pink daisy studs, and Riley has a manly brown leather Coach collar.

When we leave the house they are always on harnesses. I feel more secure when they are harnessed and we are walking, plus the harness attaches to a safety belt in the truck when we take them places. Of course, they wear their collars, too.

I am going to buy these for my big pooches..

http://www.ollydog.com/html/presidiocollar.htm

Please note the part where they wipe clean!!! I take my dogs to run and swim at least once a week. Their collars get disgusting! Muddy, swamp/fishy water stinky/ all the imbedded hair and dirty dog smell after a while. I am constantly putting them in the dishwasher and I dont think that even that gets them super clean. So these sounds like a dog send to me!! WDJ recommended them. Unfortunately, they dont make a collar small enough for my JRT.

Althought I must say, I have collars from earthdogonline.com right now. Other than the dirty thing they have held up really, really well. All the dogs have been wearing them for over a year and they still look decent.

Does anyone else have a bin of misfit collars ? I dont know where I get all these things, but I invariably seem to have a collection. Last year I donated them to a garage sale to benefit a local rescue. Plus, any animal supplies left over went to the rescue with the proceeds. I certainly hope they have another this year!

Unfortunately Bella has a collapsing Trachea so I try not to use collars on her. I just found her a harness small enough to fit (3 pounds) her and its so cute. It has the connector ring on the back so she isnt putting pressure on her Trachea when she walks. But most of the collars I have for her are the black plastic snap ones.
