Post subject: rescue listings - poll

you know how some dogs are with a rescue for a very long time (years in some cases), should the amount of time be listed? like if an ad says "bobo has been with us 4 yrs now", isn't that a HUGE turn-off for potential adopters? to me that translates into "bobo is very unadoptable and has a lot of problems".

there may be the odd case where someone sees a dog that's been waiting a looong time and adopts the poor dog out of pity, but how often is that?

opinions?

on another note: on the pf classified ads section where anybody can list a pet, i noticed one person added a pic of their dog. i didn't know this could be done there, and most people probably dont realize they can post their pets pic there.

I don't think rescues should be hiding anything-including how long the animal has been there. In some cases it may encourage animal adoption, because the people will realize the pet has been waiting for a long time.

i agree that the rescue should be honest and open about the pets heatlh, temperment, age, etc. but i think it's an antomatic turn-off for people to hear that a pet's been homeless for years

but those cases are few and far between.

imo, it's just another strike against a pet to list how long he's been waiting for a home, especially if it's been years.

if i was in the market for another pet, i probably wouldnt even inquire about a pet if he's been listed as waiting years for a new home, even if everything else about him sounded perfect. it'd just create too much doubt in my mind.
