Animal abuse/neglect that is confirmed or convicted, I agree should be information that is shared. But jsut because I am not on the lists does not mean that I don't get forwarded them.
Sorry, but I have seen enough here that are plenty interpretative (I won't use your word "petty" because they were not petty to the individuals posting them). I have adopted to many DNA people from other rescues, I just don't find them solid (excepting what I mentioned above from our ACOs). |

What I meant by petty is a grudge between people and poster, or the fact that one group thinks someone who declaws is bad and should be a dna - to me thats not justified reasons. Its your choice whom you choose to adopt to and who you don't. I don't think that as much information is individually forwarded and perhaps you and I are in different realms of this scope. With working with and for a shelter(s), I need to know information for surrounding states of reputable rescues or those that are not. I would rather euthanize one of our animals then send them to a disgusting place that calls themselves a rescue. Thats my personal choice and my own belief. There are shelters who don't care where they are sending their animals....I'm not one of them. |

For better or worse, the bottom line is, the posts are not allowed on PF. Discussion of their worthiness at this point is pretty futile. |

If you have confirmation of a rescue not upholding animal welfare laws contact your local humane welfare agent. Contact a local shelter and ask them who the enforcement agent for the rescues area. They should provide you with the information with no questions asked unless of course it is them in question. Contact the Humane officer and let them know your concerns with the rescue in question. They by law will have to go out and visit the rescue if you have tangable proof. If you just have concerns, they may go out and visit to check things out anyhow. The rescue can be fined or shut down depending on the situation. It will make them think twice before doing whatever it is they did again.
Hope this helps and please follow through. Being a rescue myself, I think we hold rescues and shelters to a higher standard and they should know they are being watched. The problem with rescues is that there is not a set list of rescues. There is no one to "police" them regularly so to speak. It is all about the welfare of the animals and finding them the right forever homes. Someone that is not living up to that expectation just not be a rescue! |

| I understand the liability issue. However, I've seen links to articles. and was wondering if the article mentions a conviction for animal cruelty, is that considered a DNA by Petfinder rules? In this case it's public information, not opinion. |

DNA list should be only be posted if research was done and can be proven. Some DNA's will be posted because one rescue gets mad at another. Always ask any adopter or rescue for a vet reference or vet records. A rescue should have a seperate fund for the rescue animals medical care. This is will give a good clue if the rescue or adopter is a good one or bad one. |
