ok my sister insists on getting a Bichon Frise for her birthday......but my house no offense isn't zoned for little yappy dogs. Just big dogs...i would prefer a boxer-pug mix only because they are medium size and entirely adorable(our new has one)Another thing, she refuses to get a puppy from the shelter.....she NEEDS (whatever thats supposed to mean) a puppy from the classifieds. I keep trying to explain to her to benefits for other animals if she would get an animal from a shelter. My mom isnt as much help on this as i wanted she just sys you cant get a puppy that costs over $150. I think its getting through......I showed her some pictures of boxer mix puppies from the Perris Shelter and she melted so she might go for it but i need more convincing reasons for her to adopt a puppy rather than buy one. I need everyones help for this.

Tell them if the puppies are advertised in classifieds, the puppies DEFINITELY are from a BYB or puppy mill, in either case, you will most likely encounter various health and/or behavior issues because of their poor breeding practice done only for money. Getting a pup from a reputable breeder would cost A LOT of money as well. Getting a pup from a shelter, especially from a rescue, will let you know (most of the time), temperament of the pup and/or health issues beforehand.

Not to mention that you will be saving a life, one out of more than 4 million put to sleep every year in this country.

Aside from all the other reasons, it's cheaper!

Let's say you get a $150 dollar puppy from the classifieds...
Then you need shots, spaying, multiple vet visits, microchipping, etc..end cost
$150+$300-500= $450-$550...

Puppy from shelter, even if it costs $150--already altered, UTD on shots, maybe chipped, hopefully one well visit to the vet in the first week....

plus, you may get a dog that has been temperment tested, possibly crate-trained or housebroken, basic obediance, etc

A Boxer X Pug??? Shocked I for one would never want to see that one "happen" Nor would I ever hope to see anyone encouraging someone to purposely breed those two breeds together! Actually, that goes for anyone breeding mixed breeds of anything!

Now to return you to your regularly scheduled program..... Embarassed

Can you post a link to that shelter? I would love to see what these puppies look like. I personally can't imagine a boxer/pug, can you imagine what their face looks like?

A mix will also be healthier than a purebred.

Boxers are great, but please rescue! And research the breed!!!

A boxer and most mixes will remain high strung and active their ENTIRE life. They rarely grow out of puppy-hood. That means extensive exercise, training, keeping their mind active (or they'll go explore, which usually leads to something being destroyed), and training training training! They think they are small dogs and they can knock adults over with their energy and excitement!
Too many boxers have to live outside because the owner didn't properly understand and train them to be well mannered inside dogs. And an outside dog is NO PLACE a dog wants to be!

No, these dogs may not have been purposely bred but someone purposely did not spay and neuter their dogs and these pups were born. Now they need a home. Here is the link to the shelter. They have the whole litter it seems. The pups are on the third page.

Laughing Laughing I'll have to look through all my pictures for them but last year I helped transport 2 Mastiff/Chihuahua X puppies from their rescue to their forever home. When I told the foster mom how incredulous I found that combo she laughed and said she would too if she didn't know the two dogs involved.

They sure are adorable! Thanks caseygirl for posting the link. I guess if they know the dogs involved that may be what they are, but it is very hard to tell from the pictures.

Cute puppies! There's gotta be some pit bull in there as well... how could you resist this cuteness?

Good luck on convincing her... if you can't get the overpopulation/millions dying/ overbreeding concept through to her... try the health/behavior tested/money thing! I'm glad you are trying to adopt!
