Hi everyone! I'm doing a project about Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, so I'm taking a survey. Please answer these questions as soon as possible! Thank you!
-Heather-
*Are you afraid of Pit Bulls?
*If yes, why?
*What do you know about them?
*Would you be more afraid of a Pit Bull or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?)
*Are you afraid of Rottweilers?

*What do you know about them?

| I am most afraid of the one that has been tied up to an axle in the backyard all of its life. |

| I am not afraid of any dog, nor have I ever been bitten by one. I am always cautious around a strange dog and pay attention to their body language. |

I am also leery of any dog I don't know because I don't know how their owner has raised it. I tend to judge the dog by the way the owner looks and acts! I am slightly more wary of a pit because we have had 12 pit attacks in our park. I would actually be the most leery of the poodle!
One of Misty's best friends at the park is a pit. The other one is a rottie/mastiff x. _________________ waiting for a home - Ben

There should be a "neither" and an "owner of" category in this poll.
I'm not afraid of either of those breeds. There've been times when owners of those two breeds gave me the creeps though...... |

I am not leery of any particular dog breed.
Here are factors that *would* make me be leery.
*uncaring owner (owners who could care less about the dog)
*owner failing to socialize the dog
*abused dog
*a dog that is tied up outside
*a dog that is left outside in a pen, with NO human companionship
*a stray dog that has absolutely no history
*a dog that has been known to bite aggressively
*a dog that growls when I go near it
IMHO, any dog can be aggressive. |

*Are you afraid of Pit Bulls?
Not neccesarily afraid, more leary of than any other breed.
*If yes, why?
Only because I once knew people who used them to fight and if you were a stranger, they would come after you in a heartbeat.
Also, the majority of dog incidents where I am from are from pit bulls.
(yes, from bad owners)
*What do you know about them?
Only what I have read and from personal experience. A sister-in-law had one. Against the wishes of the whole family. She had a 1 year old daughter. And yes, the dog went after it snapped at a neighbor.
*Would you be more afraid of a Pit Bull or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?)
A pit bull, their bite would be much worse than a poodle.
But I would think you're more likely to get bit by a poddle.
Again, only because of how they are raised. people tend to moddy coddle poodles and treat them like kids.
Those of you have never been bit, its not a pleasant experience.
I have been bit by an Airedale, a daschund, a cocker and a poodle.
None of the times was there a warning.
Or a warning I could have seen.
The owners could have enlightened me....
The airedale ws at a shelter, I opened the door and slid in the food and in the blink of an eye he had my hand.
The daschund was on a friends bed, (35 or so years ago) she asked me to pick up her bookbag. As soon as I did, he got me on my wrist.
The cocker was being abused and we went to rescue it, it was all waggly and licking then Bahm! it bit.
The poodle was at mother-in-laws house.
I had just came in and was taking off my shoes when he ran around the corner and nailed me.
(he bit everyone)
Never been bit by a big dog even tho I am around them more than any little dogs.
Rotties I respect but not really afraid of. |

*Are you afraid of Pit Bulls?
sort of
*If yes, why?
If I know the owner I am fine but this goes with any bread. I am leary of pits because of the way my neighbor has treated theirs.
*What do you know about them?
The ones I know as very loving and cute. They have a bad rep because of people like my neighbor
*Would you be more afraid of a Pit Bull or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?)
Poodle, I was attaked by one when I was little. Stupid owner didn't believe in keeping him in the yard.
*Are you afraid of Rottweilers?
nope |

This is a hard poll to answer. Pits, I have no problem with, except with certain exceptions. I don't want my dog approaching a Pit that is unknown to me and when my son was small, I wouldn't let him around a Pit unless I was between him and the dog. My neighbor adopted a Pit or a Pit mix (he looked pure to me). He was great with me, all kissy face and everything for the 9 months that he lived next door. He bit my husband and almost broke the skin and tried to go after my son once. I am sure he had a horrible experience with a man at some point. But I would not own one since I am a multiple dog owner and I know that there can be issues with a Pit and other dogs.
Rotties are a dog that just plain intimidate me because of their size. I have friends who have one who came from a not so good background and she can be aggressive if she doesn't know you.
I think the issue with me is that both dogs can do a lot of damage if they want to. The Pit may be smaller, but have been bred to fight. A Rottie is so big that if it wanted to go after me, it could probably take me down.
I have been bitten by a Great Dane (another dog that intimidates me). She had known me for several years and was tied up at my friend's house (I know now that being tied was probably the issue). Just as I reached out to pet her, I saw her eyes change and knew she was going to attack. Luckily for me she was tied up and I yanked my arm back. I had several stitches, but if she had been able to get loose, I would have probably been mauled pretty badly. She weighed about 150 and I weighed about 110 at that time.
Edited to correct spelling

*Are you afraid of Pit Bulls? No
*If yes, why?
*What do you know about them? My brother has a wonderful Pit Bull he adopted several years ago. He is gentle and is quite loveable. My aunt adopted on last year and she has been the greatest friend for my aunt.
*Would you be more afraid of a Pit Bull or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?) Neither. If I don't know a dog I wouldn't get in it's face without properly giving them time to check me out. For all the dog knows, I may be out to hurt it (especially if the dog has had bad experiences with humans before).
*Are you afraid of Rottweilers? No
*If yes, why?
*What do you know about them? Another brother of mine has a Rottie and she too is gentle and sweet. She comes in contact with many people weekly because my nephews have their friends over all the time.
*Would you be more afraid of a Rottweiler or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?) No. Same as the previous question on Pit Bulls |

It isnt the breed of dog that is dangerous, but some of the owners that have them. My answer to this is neither.
*Would you be more afraid of a Rottweiler or a Poodle, if you didnt know the temperament of either? (Or what breed would you be more afraid of?) same goes for the pit bull vs. poodle question
Definatly a poodle. I am more scared of a dog that weighs 10lbs then I am by a dog that weighs 200lbs. I have met many pits and rotties, also canary dogs, mastiffs, cane corsos, etc that were the biggest mushes ever. I have met some fighting pits that were also very sweet.
I feel bad for the dogs getting the bad rap and also the loving caring owners of these breeds. Just b/c some pits are used for fighting dogs doesnt spoil the whole breed. |

| Neither. My Rottweiler is the greatest dog I have ever owned (or fostered), however most people who see/meet her for the first time are quite scared of her unless they have gotten to know other Rottweilers. I think it is partially her size (130+) and her sheer strength. Also, when she sees someone or something outside, she has a loud, vicious bark that make her sound like some kind of rabid beast! But, as soon as she is done trying to intimidate whatever she saw out the window, she returns to the couch and tries to curl up on the lap of whomever happens to be there at the time. |
