| Does your dog as part of his normal behavior go ballistic, lunge towards your feel with his/her teeth bared, growling and making frienzied snaps at your feet and ankles? (Normal = happening at least once a day, 4 days out of a week. |

I've recently been told I don't know what normal dog behavior is. I guess I'm living in a very isolated community, because none of the dogs I know behave as listed above.
I teach dog training classes part-time and very rarely does a student come to me stating that their dog is behaving in that way. When they do, I refer them to our office for a private session.
I work in a shelter full-time. Most of our employees have dogs. Never have I heard that one of our employees has a dog behaving in this way. Many of our employees bring their dogs to work with them, and I've never observed this.
Most of my friends have dogs. I've never heard that any of the dog's of my friends attack their feet in a frienzied manner. My dogs have never done this.
Maybe I'm living in a glass bubble. Maybe elsewhere in the world most people have dogs that behave in this way. If so, I'll admit I was wrong. But I find it hard to believe that anyone would want a dog if this was how dogs normally behave.

| Reena, no poll is attached. I would gladly participate because I know you are very versed in dog behavior. |

Reena, consider the source...
It's like Paris Hilton calling someone else a "bimbo"... |

Yeah -- I forgot to do the options, and then I ran out of time because I needed to get Holly to agility class. It's fixed now. Feel free to participate.

Everyone is here on this board with the same goal in mind.
Hopefully, they are.
Things can get misconstrued on a message board, not taken in the way its was meant.
There are different ways to train and different things work for different people. Some people are better at following thru with one program than they may be with another.
There is so much valuable information to be gotten from this board. |

Unfortunately not everyone on this board has the same goal. Some people on this board have been kicked off by administration twice because she causes trouble, is rude to other posters and displays trollish behavior. Some people always post under the same first 5 letters in their name, and everytime she comes back to this board she changes the last few letters of her name. The first time she was _ _ _ _ _ dogz, then she was _ _ _ _ _ dogs, and now she's _ _ _ _ _ chien.
What's very unfortunate is that the first month or so she came back in her latest incarnation she really was behaving herself. She was posting intelligently, behaving politely and was a good member of Petfinder boards. I guess it's too hard for her to hold all her nastiness in. |

Reena, I agree that this is not normal behavior. But I had to laugh because my corgi mix will grab my slippers and growl every time I put them on or take them off. She will not touch them if they aren't on my feet!
I missed the thread where all of this started, but I certainly understand your frustration. I had felt that there are certain posters who are extremely condescending towards everyone because those posters obviously feel superior to the other folks. No, I am not talking about you Reena, I respect your posts because it is obvious that you know what you are talking about. |

This isn't normal behavior? I'm going to have a stern talk with my Australian Cattledogs.
I honestly don't see this in the shelters I visit, but that is probably because this would mean an immediate classification as "not adoptable" and if not reclaimed, they would not be offered for adoption or rescue. Sadly, too many dogs that are without issues are still being PTS at the shelters I visit, so even IF this is workable, they are humanely euthanized.
Unless of course they are under 10#, then they are stuffed into carriers and given to those crazy...errr...dedicated small dog rescue groups. |

I completely agree. Lottas primary objective has always been to demean other posters through her outright condescending, rude posts. Why administration continues to let her get away with this, Lord knows. |

While I think that Reena does know what she's talking about...
Honestly, if I hadn't trained my terrier to be a well-mannered dog he *might* engage in that type of behavior that often!
I also would consider that 'normal' - not *acceptable* but *normal* behavior in an underexercised, undertrained, high energy dog of a variety of breeds. The herding breeds (esp. border collies & shelties) come to mind, but I've seen terriers do the same thing.
I have a friend whose sheltie is practically perfect, and he will once in a great while engage in "alligatoring" of shoes when he's really hyped up.
I guess that 'normal' doesn't mean something that happens every single day - to me it means something that's within the expected behavior pattern for certain breeds/types of dogs. I wouldn't be surprised if someone said "wow, my 9 month old bc is going for my shoes like a lunatic when I come home from work and he's been crated for 8 hours".
To address the other subject, it is strange and seems to undermine the whole point of registering if someone can not only re-register but do so under such transparent screen names. |

Reena,
As you know, I have the greatest respect for your knowledge as well as your method of presenting the information.
I revisited the thread in question, and it seems the OP is trying your suggestions and is thankful for your advice ...and that is a good thing. |
