15. How do you feel about breeders? Considering the large number of wonderful pets that are currently in need of homes I would like to see less breeders. The few that actually breed to benefit the purebred lines and find responsible homes for all their puppies are okay.

15. How do you feel about breeders? it depends on how much they know about the breed they are dealing with i dont like BYB's that do it for the money and know nothing about the breed they are breeding.

15. How do you feel about breeders? the FEW responsible breeders who care about the breed AND rescue are good. The majority of breeders need to reevaluate why they do what they do, and think about all the animals who die because of their actions.

6. Does your rescue have any behavior problems? not really, she can be a little antsy around men. the cat has NO issues.

16. Have you ever purchased an animal from a breeder? yes, before i knew any better, it was NOT a good breeder and the dog has many health and behavior issues.

17. Have you ever purchased an animal from a pet store? no, but i used to work at one that sold dogs before i knew any better.

19. Did your animal have any training or manners? i don't think the shelter gave my girl any, but she has no issues. but the shelter i work with does give training to dogs that need work.

one was a stray (cat) and the other was turned in when the owners had a baby (dog)

i would like to note that this dog is absolutly wonderful around kids, and would have made a perfect dog to raise with a baby.

5. How old was your animal when adopted? One cat was 6 months, another cat 4 years old, and the Beagle was three.

11. Would you adopt again? yes in a heart beat, just to save another animals life it amazing.

14. Do you have your own rescue? When I am older I hope to have a rescue for cats and Beagles

15. How do you feel about breeders? If they are responsible breeders I can deal with them for the most part because not all breeds are common in shelters.

17. Have you ever purchased an animal from a pet store? Yes my Rottie 12 years ago before I knew about puppymills I will never buy from a pet store again I will always adopt

18. Do you think shelter have too high of adoption fees? Some times I would say yes but you have to think about how much money they put into the animal. They usually do not make all of their money back from that to help more animals

19. Did your animal have any training or manners? No, but I have not adopted a puppy or had problems with my adult dogs yet

Yes. Bear from a county pound (ex adopted as gift) Pacer from a rescue

2. Was your rescue purebred?
Yes both dogs are believed to be PB

No

1 - pound , 1 - Rescue, 2 strays/dumped on car/given to me kittens

Bear - 8 weeks, Pacer 2.5 yrs., Kittens - just under 6 weeks

Pacer - dog/dog aggressive and pulled on leash, but then he's a husky they tend to pull. But I knew beforehand about the pulling. The aggression developed after adoption and was a surprise to both me and the adoption agency.

Both dogs are and Pacer came altered. Kittens are waiting to be altered.

Personally no. But I have had many bad experiences with people trying to "purchase" animals for adoption at the shelter I help out at.

Yes. Will probably only ever adopt.

Sometimes. I'm on a tight budget.

No - lack of space/rent

15. How do you feel about breeders?
There is a place in society for responsible breeders. BUT there are precious few responsible breeders. And no, you don't find them in the newspaper.

Ewww, no.

Legitimate shelters/rescues don't.

Pacer had been thru a basic obedience, Bear was too young.

Bear was turned in with the whole litter b/c the owner suddenly decided they were too much work. Pacer was HW +, but there is some speculation about his living circumstances.

Avari, my female Shiba was abused and abandoned, found in a vacant apartment by the land lord and turned in.

Niko my male Shiba, was bought at a pet store by someone who shouldn't have had a dog, and couldn't keep the dog at his apartment and then gave the dog to his girlfriends mother, while trying to surrender the dog to Shiba rescue. Niko was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but we all lucked out in finding him.

4. Was your animal from a pound, shelter or rescue? 2 of my dogs and 3 cats came from shelter, 1 dog was an owner give up directly to me, & 1 dog came from a rescue

5. How old was your animal when adopted? 12 weeks (cats), 4 months, 5 months, 1 year and 2 years

7. What kind of animal is your rescue? DOG & Cat

8. Is your rescue altered? dog-yes cats - no (to young will be altered once old enough)

9. Is your rescue microchipped? 1 dog is yes

11. Would you adopt again? YES

12. Do you donate to rescues? I actually volunteer as a foster parent and volunteer for a breed specific rescue so I guess I would say yes

13. Do you foster animals for shelters? Shelters no - Rescues yes

14. Do you have your own rescue? no but I volunteer for a breed specific rescue

15. How do you feel about breeders? Breeders are not needed in this world because there is already a huge overpopulation of animals from people that are not responsible enough to have their animals altered

16. Have you ever purchased an animal from a breeder? no - one of my dogs was purchased by another lady but was owner surrendered to me about 4 months after acquiring her

They were turned into the shelter because they were all unwanted puppies that the owners were irresponsible and let there dogs "have one litter"
