15. How do you feel about breeders?
There are responsible breeders, those that test all animals and aren't just out to make money. They find great homes for their animals and have long waiting lists of pre-screened people waiting to purchase one of their animals. That kind of breeder is okay. But the people who irresponsibly breed their dog with the one down the street to make a quick buck or show their kids the miracle of birth, or whatever their excuse may be, and puppymills, those I don't like.

Yes, my Newfoundland, Huey

Yes, my first Chinchilla, Cody
18. Do you think shelter have too high of adoption fees?
Well, if the animal had to have expensive surgery or if it is a very popular breed (especially the toy breeds) then the adoption fee will be a little higher than normal. But I don't think the adoption fee could ever be too high. Rescues and shelters are non-profit and the only way they stay running is through donations and adoption fees. The adoption fees may seem high, but when you think of everything that's included (spay/neuter, shots, testing, sometimes microchipped and house trained) then it's a really good deal.

No

Oskar was left outside after his family moved away. After about a year one of the neighbors caught him and brough him to the shelter. He lost an eye and broke a tooth (probably in a fight) and was shot with a BB gun. |

| I have to add that I have adopted 3 of my other cats from rescues, one was found at a farm and the one I answered about came from the SPCA. One dog was dumped at my vet as a 2 week old puppy, one is a permanent foster with my rescue and one I got from an "accidental" pregnancy. |

3. Was your rescue a mix? Karmel is a Lab/Staffie - Mouse is a Basset?/Corgi?/German Shepherd Dog

2. Was your rescue purebred? 2 of them are.. Cody - Aussie and Boonie- Pom
3. Was your rescue a mix? yes Zoey -Rottie X
4. Was your animal from a pound, shelter or rescue? Zoey from the pound/shelter and Boonie and Cody from rescue groups
5. How old was your animal when adopted? Zoey was 12 weeks, Cody was 11 weeks and Boonie is about 5 years
6. Does your rescue have any behavior problems? Cody- no Zoey -no Boonie- Barking and peein' in my house
7. What kind of animal is your rescue? All Dogs.. although some times i think Boonie is a cat.. lol he just jumps and jumps and jumps.. and lays on the back of the couch

Cody was turned in because the breeder found out he was deaf and wanted to have him PTS but tired a rescue group instead ( thank god! ) Zoey was a stray in the snow at 9 weeks!!  and Boonie was turned in to the pound neglected and in bad health.... rescue group got him and fixed him up... or so they say |

Good Luck on your survey! Although, i will suggest that you post your survey on a forum totally unrelated to Petfinder, and pets. The results that you will get are going to be extremely skewed towards animal lovers, and animal rescue, unless your survey is about what animal lovers do, (but it would be interesting to do a comparison between different populations of people (Hmmm Im way too much of a scientists  )) Anyway, Good Luck on your Speech! |

- No.

- Yes, but we didn't know better back then and from now on we will only adopt.

- No, because most shelters charge $100 or less and that covers the spay/neuter, vaccinations, etc. Shelters rely on donations and sometimes the adoption fees don't cover everything that's needed.

- No, but she has learned what's right from wrong.
