Post subject: Update on my horse Albert, and recent rescue endeavors
Reply with quote

Hello all! I haven't been around much at all these past couple of years, so I don't know how many familiar faces I might see here, but I thought I would give a little update on my horse Albert and I. I bought him 2 1/2 years ago now, and we have grown and bonded even more since our last update! I can now ride him at a canter with a saddle without holding onto the reins, and bareback walk/trot without reins. We are well on our way to riding tackless! XD

Here is the post I made when I first bought him- http://www.petfinder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=179888
and the last update-

Anyway, look at what we can do now! (Skip to 3:15 to see something awesome!)

Now, the other reason I am posting is that I wanted to let you guys know that my riding trainer and one of her clients will be involved in rescuing some horses at a place nearby that are being neglected. The guy who owns them has about 50 horses and breeds them willy nilly. He cannot afford to feed them and they have been starving this winter. As far as I know, we will be taking about 5 yearlings to adopt out, and I believe these 5 will be out of 25 that the authorities are making this guy surrender. There will be a screening process to make sure that their new owner is qualified to take care of them. Tomorrow the brother of one of the young riders here, who works for a local news station, will be coming out to do some interviews about it. I sincerely hope that these guys find forever homes quickly, so fingers crossed that the news story helps get the word out!

Glad to hear from you! Good luck with your efforts to rescue those horses.

It's bad enough when people hoard cats and dogs. But it must be really hard to find placement for horses!

Thanks! Fortunately the person who is coordinating this rescue has found other places for the 20 other horses. Now the main problem is getting hay donations. We had a bad drought last year and hay prices have doubled. Sad
