I made "the call" to the vet today. Barring a miracle, Maggie will be PTS tomorrow at 1:30 PM.
1/13 would have been our fifth anniversary together. Maggie was already old when I got her. It was a miracle that she survived the shelter, a miracle that she found her way to me (and I to her), and a miracle that she has lived and enjoyed life for so many years after being discarded.
She is probably 20 years old.
My heart is breaking. But for the past 2 days she can't get up on her own. If I stand her up, she walks a bit, but unpredictably falls and then can't right herself. She is still eating (still has a great appetite) and fully aware. But she falls and cries and I know she is in pain. Sometimes when she falls she pees on herself. It is so sad.
I spent most of last night up with her. I fell asleep, but her cries woke me up. So, I got up and helped her change her position. At one point she seemed to be having abdominal pain.
I held her for awhile and she fell asleep in my arms.
Today she seemed better, but then she fell again. And cried. She is such a stoic little dog. If she is crying, it must be very painful or frightening.
Please send good thoughts for her. And for me. I love her so. |

Furperson,
It is so difficult to watch a poor old soul we love dearly suffer. Letting them cross peacefully over the bridge is at times the last gift we have to offer them.
Sending prayers... |

Hugs to you. It's so hard to let go but you know what's right for her. You've been blessed by her and she's been blessed by you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |

| So sorry for your loss. That last gift we give them is just so hard. She was so lucky to have spent some good years with you and to go to the bridge with love. |

Maggie is gone.
If anyone has contact with Kutin, please let her know that I kept my promise. The night I picked up Maggie from the folks who transported her from Indiana, I looked at the sweet old dog sitting next to me in the car. She was so neglected. And so innocent. I promised her that she would never again be hungry, cold, lonely or afraid. I promised her that I would do my best to make her happy, keep her safe, and take care of her needs. I promised her I would be there "every step of the way."
The last steps of that journey are always the hardest. But I kept my promise to Maggie. And she gave me more than I could have imagined. Just by being Maggie. So gentle, so wise, with eyes that sparkled even though her legs and back were bent with arthritis.
She was truly a remarkable soul. |

Haven't been on PF and just saw this. So sorry for your loss. There is really nothing to say that eases the pain. Prayers that Maggie is waiting at the Rainbow bridge and is young and healthy again. _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”
