Post subject: Senior Saturday - older dogs hoping for homes 12/22
|Bless them all. Feel free to add any old faces who have touched your heart.
Nick (Crowley, LA)
A pet is a special friend that shares its life with us. It gives us unconditional love, which at times is more than most people give. Please give love to these special animals. They don't understand why they are dumped at shelters when all they wanted was to love and be loved. PLEASE ADOPT AND GIVE THESE PETS A SECOND CHANCE.
When you are ready to adopt please look for shelter dogs or rescued dogs. Their sad stories will pull at your heartstrings and bring tears to your eyes. All they want is a little love and affection and some happiness in their lives. Many were abused or neglected. Please open up your hearts and adopt instead of buying from breeders. Your next best friend is waiting patiently for you.
Second Chance Paws
We are a group of ordinary people that have taken on the task of placing homeless animals with their "furever families" We don not operate from a shelter, but foster from our homes with the help of our families. Our Adoptions Days are held the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at Tractor Supply in Crowley and Abbeville.
Waldo (Nevada, IA)
Waldo is an affectionate fellow. He is a bit on the older side but he still deserves to live out the rest of his life in a loving home where he can be spoiled. All of our dogs are either spayed or neutered. They have been given a distemper and bordetella vaccination, flea treatment, and have been wormed. Since our adoption fee is so low ($35) why not consider a tax free donation. Your support is a key ingredient in the continued success of our shelter. An application must be completed and approved if you would like to adopt a dog from the Story County Animal Shelter. The staff here at the shelter works very hard to find just the right home for each animal that comes through the door. For more information please call us at 515-382-3338.
Rico (Red Oak, IA)
Senior boy, Rico was found wandering the cold streets the night before Thanksgiving. Even though he is blind in one eye, no teeth and hard of hearing, he is a jewel. He walks very well on a leash, asks to go outside and loves to be cuddled. He is good with the other dogs and cats at the shelter. He is very quiet and good in his kennel. Would make a great companion for an older person or couple.. His only requirements are soft food and a loving lap. He is aboaut 8 pounds, neutered, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and heartworm negative. Can you give him a great home?
(He’s in a rescue.)
Norton (Pahrump, NV)
This older gentleman was found on Malibou & Winterwood and brought into the shelter on 12/15/12.
Lizzy (Rifle, CO)
Meet Lizzy! Lizzy is a very well mannered and well behaved Black Lab mix. She likes treats and being with people. She is a very good companion dog. She is great on a leash and very easy to spend time with. She knows basic command. She comes to us from another shelter where she was surrendered because her owner had to move to assisted living. We are very happy to have her and know there's a new home looking for a great dog like her out there! Lizzy is 11 years young. Come meet her! You'll love her! Lizzy is in foster care. Please call to set up a time to meet her. Lizzy hates pictures and videos so she doesn't look near as friendly and cute as she really is. Meet her in person! She's a different dog! Thank you! She The adoption fee for dogs is $50. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on their vaccines. Please call 970-625-8808 for more information. Please leave a message if no one answers. We are often busy and can't get to the phone. Thank you for thinking adoption first!
Tex (Golden, CO)
(He’s 12 yrs old and neutered. This picture isn’t too flattering…he looks scared.)

Tori Pet ID: 18682968 (Walla Walla, WA)
Hello, my name is Tori and I am a 10 year old retriever/chow chow mix. I was brought to the shelter after my previous owner could no longer care for me. I am a very sweet girl and I love to go on walks. I know how to sit, stay and I have good leash manners. I may be an older girl but my heart is big and I have so much to give to a wonderful family. Hurry down and meet me today!
Carmel (Lewiston, ID)
Hi, I'm Carmel, a sweet, goofy boy who loves attention and treats. I have wirey hair and a beagle type bark, but I don't use it much unless I'm excited. I am a great nap taker and walk great on a leash. I am about 10 years old. I was brought into the shelter after my owner passed away. I have some cataracts in my eyes, but I still have a lot of life to live and love to give. I hope you'll come give me a home for the holidays.

Tippy (Houma, LA)
Tippy is a 10 year old female beagle. She is spayed, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Tippy weighs about 30 lbs and could stand to lose a little weight. Tippy was pulled from a high kill shelter; her owner had died and the family didn't want Tippy. Tippy is a sweet older gal who is very laid back and just wants a soft place to sleep and some people to love.
