*Why choose Me?* Jingo is an owner surrender. His owner said that Jingo
(his real name) did not like leashes and would jump around with one. When
he was brought to Animal Control, he was a scared boy. We didn’t know what
to expect when we took him out for his pictures. What we learned was that
Jingo was all sweetness. No, he didn’t know how to walk on a leash, but we
suspect he just hadn’t had much experience with one. We had to carry him
part of the way to the area where we were taking pictures, but by the time
we took him back to his kennel, he was doing well for a dog that has never
been leash trained. We also learned that Jingo loves attention and
praise. He blossomed right before our eyes as we petted him and told him
what a good boy he was. His tail was wagging and he ate up the attention.
We think Jingo is a wonderful dog. What he needs is love, patience, and
someone willing to spend time with him to work on things like leash
training and sitting on command. He’s loving and wants to be with people.
Come meet Jingo today. As an owner surrender, he isn’t guaranteed any
amount of time.
*Volunteer Update 8/26:* Every time I walk with Jingo, he improves his
leash manners. Walking with him today, I would never have guessed that
five days ago he had never walked on a leash. I enjoy my time with Jingo
because he is such a happy dog. I do have to remind him that he’s too big
to be a lap dog. He just gets so excited when he gets attention that he
forgets he is a BIG puppy. Jingo is a smart and loving dog. He would be a
great pet for someone willing to spend some time with him. I can already
tell that he is a loyal dog. He always recognizes me and knows that I will
take him out to play and walk. His tail wags the whole time. If you think
Jingo is the right dog for you, please put an application in for him as
soon as possible. I don’t know that he can make it through another
Wednesday, and it would be so sad to lose this special boy.
*Update 8/28:* Jingo got really lucky and was not euthanized last week when
other good dogs were, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be as lucky again. He
is out of time with *no* applications, his situation is URGENT. Please come
by and meet him before it is too late!

Ollie is a lover! He was so attentive and soaked up every ounce of
attention he could get. However, he warmed up to me much faster than he did
to another male volunteer- He seems to be a little more afraid around men.
Even so, he came out of his shell and just loved to be petted. His coat is
so soft and he rests his head right on your lap. I know Ollie would be an
amazing, loyal, well-behaved dog. He walked very well on a leash, stayed
right by my heels the whole time, and truly looks to an owner for guidance.
Come visit Ollie today! If you earn his trust, he will never leave your
side. He would make an excellent pet for adults and children alike.

a sweet and loving dog. He stayed right with us and leaned into us as we

*Why choose Me?*
Huck is such a curious boy! He had the good exploring attitude of a puppy
with the maturity of a 4 year old dog. In fact, it was hard to get a
picture because he was constantly smelling around and noticing all of his
surroundings. Huck is a strong guy- I think he’d love an owner to take him
on walks and let him enjoy the outdoors. I also noticed that he got along
great with other dogs. He is very tolerant and easy going. Even when he was
being barked at, he stood still watching, not barking back. Huck is very
unique, having one blue eye and one brown eye. Come visit Huck today- he
could be your perfect watch dog or your new exercise pal!
*Volunteer Update 8/26: *We learned today that Huck’s real name is King.
When I called him King, it was like his face lit up because someone knew
his name. Unfortunately, King is an owner surrender so he is not
guaranteed any amount of time. King is a strong dog, but he’s also calm
and never jumped up on me. He liked running, but when we stopped, he was
patient and waited beside me while I took a break. It broke my heart when
we were walking and he pulled me over to the entrance gate. I felt like he
was looking for his owner, but as an owner surrender, his owner is not
coming back. King needs a new home where he can be loved. After watching
him at the gate, I know he could be a loyal companion for the right person.

*Why choose Me?** *Joy is a friendly and playful girl. My husband was
walking her, and she came right to me wagging her tail and smiling ready
for her picture. She hasn’t learned how to fetch yet, but she does know
that toys are for chewing and tossing around. Joy is very aware of her
surroundings and likes watching other dogs, but we never heard her bark at
them. She enjoys being close and getting attention. She also likes treats
and takes them nicely. Joy is still a pup and is learning how to walk on a
leash. She seems to be a smart girl, so leash training shouldn’t be a
problem. We loved her light brindle coat and beautiful green eyes. Come
meet Joy today. She’s a sweet girl and would love to play with you.
*Volunteer Update 8/16:* It’s hard for me to believe that this sweet girl
has no applications! She is so much fun. We played with some toys in an
interaction pen today. Her favorite was a stuffed toy. She entertained
herself by tossing it around and then playfully pouncing on it. Another
dog was in the interaction pen next to us, and she’d hold it at the fence
trying to get his attention. She was wagging her tail and wanted to play.
When we walked back to her kennel, she did very well on a leash. Joy
needs a new forever home soon! She was spared this past Wednesday, but I
don’t think she could be that lucky again. If you’re looking for a loving
and playful puppy, come meet Joy today.
*Update 8/17:* Joy’s hold time is up and she has *no* applications [image:
] The shelter is getting more crowded again as you can see from the
website – her situation is *extremely* urgent!
*Update 8/19: *Joy is in quarantine for 10 days. She is a *puppy* and
nipped a first time volunteer. As a result, she must be quarantined for 10
days. I’ve walked and played with Joy many times, and I have never seen
her as aggressive. Yes, she is playful, likes to chew on things, and, like
many puppies, nips in her excitement. It broke my heart to see this little
girl isolated in quarantine. I’m sure she wonders why no one is taking her
out. When her quarantine ends, she will need a rescue or adoption
immediately.
*Update 8/28:* Joy is out of quarantine and available for adoption or
rescue! It was so good to see her happy and in a regular kennel again.
After being cooped up for 10 days, she was very energetic and ready to
run. Too bad it was raining on her first day out, but she made the most of
it and had a great time! Her situation is urgent, however, and she needs
an immediate adoption or rescue.

*Why choose Me?** *Martie is a stray who had taken up residence in
someone’s yard. She was looking for a home. She was a little apprehensive
about her surroundings at the pound, but warmed up to us quickly. She
liked sitting beside us but also felt like she was a lap dog. She enjoys
attention and being petted. While she was with us, she was very calm and
also walked well on a leash. Come visit with Martie. She’s still looking
for a home, and maybe she’s the right fit for yours.
*Volunteer Update 8/28:* Martie is such a wonderful dog! I’m really
surprised that she has not been adopted. When we walk, she walks right
beside me and never pulls. When I stop, she stops and leans into me
because she knows if I stop I’m going to pet her. She sat patiently beside
me as I talked with another volunteer. Later when another dog was having
some fun with a volunteer’s hat and kicking up her heels, Martie sat down
and looked at me as if to say, “She should know better than that!” She
never tried to pull or run over to join the fun; she knew her place was
beside me. I also think Martie is adorable with her long body and short
legs. Her legs may be short, but she’s up for a good walk. Come meet
Martie today. She’s always waiting quietly in her kennel hoping to meet a
new friend.

*Why choose Me?*
Kiya is a ball of energy!! She loved being out around people and was very
friendly. I don’t think Kiya has ever walked on a leash before today,
however, so if you want to walk her make sure to get a strong leash and
take it slow. By the time we walked back to her kennel she already seemed
to be doing better on the leash so I think she will learn quickly. As any
energetic dog would, she loves toys and especially the ones that squeak.

too!

Lucy was a little unsure about being out of her run at first. She was a
little scared to walk, especially with bigger dogs barking at her, so I
carried her into the interaction area. Once we were there she was such a
happy girl! She was very attentive and was always right around me, but not
in a clingy way. Lucy was just very sweet and love love loved having her
belly rubbed! She’d make an excellent lap dog, snuggle partner, and friend

animal shelter and needs a loving owner to take her to a real forever home!

Dallas is the perfect definition of a lap dog. When he wasn’t sitting in my
lap, he wanted to be. Or he at least would lean up against my body and
nudge me. Although he is just a puppy, someone has done some training work
with Dallas. He seems to be potty trained, and he walked so well on a
leash. He loves attention and will just sit and chill for as long as you’ll
let him. If you’re looking for a low maintenance pal who can keep you
company while relaxing, Dallas is your guy! Come see this little guy today.
He warms up to everyone so fast and loves being out of his run where he can
get some love and attention. Dallas would make a great pet for any type of
family!

*Why choose Me?** *Doc has a note on his information sheet that states, “My
heart is as big as my head. Let me take you for a walk! I pull hard.”
All of this is true. He’s a big, strong dog that pulls on the leash
(borrow a sturdier leash from Animal Control to walk him), but he is as
sweet as he can be. The volunteer I was with was giving him some good
scratches on his back and he was snorting with contentment. She called him
a nugget of muscle and he just leaned into her loving the attention. Doc is
a handsome dog with beautiful greenish colored eyes and the cutest nose.
He likes to sit for a treat and is a happy boy. His tail was wagging the
whole time he was out. If you love strong pits who are also good natured
and loving, come meet Doc. You’ll both get a good work out on your walk,
and then you can relax and pet Doc. He will thank you with a snort!
