Post subject: Political Talk at Work

I am really tired of people thinking it is ok to talk politics at work. I mean really keep your point of views to your families and friends.

When I was a kid you were taught to respect the president. Everywhere I go people bad mouth the president to such a degree that it really offends me.

I am not for this president any more or less than any of the others before him but I feel he should get respect.

This whole attitude of us verse's them is what is the downfall of our country!

I personally don't believe holding a certain type of job should entitle anyone to unearned respect. Respect must be earned and kept, it's not automatically conferred when someone gets hired, promoted or elected.

I rarely discuss politics.
If someone, including a relative, starts a political discussion I do not want to be part of, I will either leave the room or go to another part of the room.
If that is not an option, I will make it very clear I am not paying 1 iota of attention to the conversation or flat-out tell the person I do not discuss politics and am not interested in listening to what the person has to say.
I do not care if it is construed as being rude, it is frankly the only way to be able to be around certain family members and has proven effective with co-workers, friends, relatives and complete strangers.

Frankly, the right to be disrespectful of elected officials is a freedom to be coveted. We don't have to worry about being jailed, beaten or murdered for speaking against the president, vice president, mayor, governor, etc. like citizens of other nations.

Point taken - It just gets to me the derogatory remarks some people make - it's one thing to disagree with policies but to bash someone's person and family with hateful words.

I guess what I meant in respecting the president is he is and was elected the president and some respect should be given for that. I do agree at least we do live in a country where we do have the right to express ourselves and can elect someone else.
