Post subject: I'd like to write a childrens book...

I want to write a series of children's stories based on my cat's lives. I want to actually start about fifteen years after I got my first cat, when he died. It would be a lesson on coping with the loss of a loved one, based on how my younger cat (Waffles) handled the death of her older housemate (Blackie.)

I briefly go into it in the thread called "Breakfast Tails" under the Happy Tails forum...but I would write it more from Waffles' perspective for the book. If the first book catches on, then I will right more, dealing with various life lessons my cats have tought me through the years. Because let's face it, our pets can teach us so much!

So basically, the reason I'm even posting is to ask if you think it would be a good idea, and to seek any advice you may have to give me.

You should go for it though it can be hard to find a publisher, can't remember how many rejections JK Rowling got for the 1st Harry Potter book!

Decide what age range you'd like to write for and read a LOT of different books meant for that age range.
The more you read, the better.

Start researching publishers now.
See what their submission procedures are, what they are accepting, if they require an agent, if they accept unsolicited materials, etc. Don't forget to check magazines and the e-book market too.

Writing courses are valuable.
There are lots of online courses available through community colleges for people who are interested in how to get started writing, getting published, grammar refreshers, etc.
