I was wondering if anyone knows if it really works to keep flies away is putting water in a clear baggy and hanging it?

I have a terrible fly problem at my home. I do not know what is attracting them. No garbage or animal doo (I keep that cleaned up) etc. I do live out in the country and neighbors do have horses, cows etc.

Never heard of such a thing. We just use fly paper. Our darling neighbors don't clean the yard very often to we have tons out back. Every time I open the back door a few get it.

Actually hanging water bags has no effect on flies. Mythbusters actually tested this on their show Very Happy It doesn't do a thing.

The best you can do is try fly traps that are on the market. Or my step-mom-in-law used to open up a bottle of cheap half filled wine and the flies would crawl in it and die. Cheap and effective but sort of gross Laughing

We get a lot of flies here because we have a lot of fruit fields (wine country) but your problem seems to be your neighbors animals! Not much you can do except put out traps and pull out the fly swatter!

Thanks for the advice - I sure was not wanting to have to dispose of dead flies, just wanted them to go away lol

I have chickens and I read on a chicken forum that vanilla scented car air fresheners work to keep flies away.
I tried it and it worked.
I hung them up high though so my chickens couldn't get them.
I have no idea if they are toxic to animals but my guess would be yes.
Use them with caution. (hang them really high and nowhere that your pets can get at them)

I only had trouble that one summer with flies but the vanilla things worked really well.

They look like this.
