I have a couple of questions please
1.) what is HE?
2.) why would a frontloader cause more mold/mildew then a top loader?
I never left the door open on any top loader and never had a mold/mildew issue _________________

"HE" means "high efficiency": the amount of water per load is calculated by the onboard computer (HAL), so theoretically each load uses the exact amount of water needed. Much better than those outdated analog "light/medium/heavy/extra heavy" CHOICES you had with the old washers. You also should use special "HE" laundry products, or something dire will happen.
Mold: haven't see any on mine yet, but I can understand how it's likely if you keep the door closed on those heavy rubber linings, linings that are of course necessary since you're trying to make water spin sideways.
Just did a load of socks/underwear/dishtowels -- my, how two hours fly by!

I have had a Gibson front load for 13+ years, and it's still going strong. I did have to have it repaired recently as the pads that hold the drum level had worn, but it wasn't an expensive repair. I don't think Gibson is sold anymore, and I think they were made by someone else (GE or Whirlpool, maybe?).
It hasn't molded, but my washer is in the basement, so leaving the door open isn't a problem.
I can open the door to add an item I've forgotten.
It holds a king sized bedspread, but not a king sized poofy comforter.
The dryer is holding up ok, too.
Knock wood as I say this!!! |

My brother called yesterday. Their 3 year old LG front loader was leaking from the door gasket. Instead of having it fixed they bought a brand new SET. It seems they could not replace just the washer since then the washer & dryer would not match. You know how many people come to your house, head for the basement & say "OMG - your washer & dryer don't match!!!!"
Anyway, he wanted to know if we wanted the "old" set. He knows hubby can repair appliances. We are picking it up tonight. Hubby intends to replace the gasket then call a local charity that provides furniture & appliances to needy families. I don't need a dryer. My washer is about ready to kick the bucket but I have no intention of using a front loader. Like sebsmom said - they take FOREVER. Besides - while I always use the least amount of water/time possible - sometimes I am washing something that I think needs extra water/time. I really don't want my washing machine thinking for me. |
