Well things have been crazy... as usual... but I swear this past November there was something in the planets , dunno.

Let’s see, my mum went to Mexico as per usual with my sister in early Nov, it was fine for the first week then she got a sore in her mouth, 24 hours later the doc was telling my sister to get her back to Canada ASAP and by the time they got a flight, my mum could not walk and was hallucinating through LAX -- not a place you wanna do that. When she got the hospital in Vancouver her mouth was black, her tear duct was so swollen on one side that they thought she might lose an eye and they were discussing whether she could keep her teeth.
They got her into hospital as soon as they touched down and pumped her full of 4 different kinds of antibiotics-- it was EXACTLY like an episode of House, teams of docs, no one knew what was wrong so they treated for everything. She probably saw 20 docs altogether. Turns out it was a common bacteria that just went to town on her. She has a weakened immune system due to lymphoma 10 years ago. She says she is never leaving Canada again. I don’t blame her.

In the meantime my parents cat died while she was away.

Then work has been insane for me-- I am just now coming up for air. Others in my office are not so lucky yet.

My kids birth great grandma died (though that was blessing, she was suffering).

Now my partner is having major health problems again, well as usual... What I believe is undiagnosed MS is flaring up again... We are going back to the doc soon and I am going to talk to her doc about it-- everything just keeps getting passed over and no one is putting the pieces of the puzzles together.
She is in big time brain fog, having pains in her legs, vision problems, major fatigue etc etc. It is all blamed on her meds for her bipolar disorder. The ophthalmologist just says she has dry eyes... riiiiight.

Hmm what else... that about takes care of it for now. I still have my sense of humour though.

I am so sorry that November was so bad for you. I hope your December is much better!
I know that symptoms can be so very different in each person, but your partner's symptoms sound so much like my SIL's. She was diagnosed with the onset of Lupus. She has been on a gluten-free diet and is almost 100% symptom free now and has also lost a lot of weight and feels better than ever.

That really is a lot! Glad your mom was able to get home in time for treatment. How scary is that to go through, esp in a foreign country and through LAX of all places.

Here's hoping that things brighten up considerably for you starting... right..... NOW!

Vancouver must be beautiful. Got any scenic pics?

Take care, and (((hugs))) to you.

So sorry to hear of all of this. Sad

One of my dearest Rescue friends here in CO went thru very similar things. She believes she has MS - Dr's never agreed... However, now that she has been working w/ one Dr. and also researching on her own, she is much better.

If your partner ever wishes to speak w/ her, just let me know. She's a hoot and really has done right by not listening to some of the professionals.

Many well wishes for a better Dec. Hugs!

Hopefully things start looking up for you.

Sounds very scarey for your mom, but glad she is doing better.

Sorry to hear your mom was so sick. I am glad though she made it back to have them figure out what what it was that was causing her illness. LAX is NOT the place to be ill.

Your SO is really needing to find a doctor that will listen. It took 4 trips to 4 different hospitals since August to finally figure out my dad was having seizures instead of mini strokes. I am in love with Barrow's nuero center.

Yea, I can imagine the stress from work. we have been politely asked by our agency to re-open our home to kiddos because the shelters are filled to capacitiy and foster families are quitting left and right because the state keeps cutting funding. CPS is now setting cots up in the offices because there is no where to put kiddos. So, next thursday we go back on the placement list.

Give the girls an extra hug from Arizona for the loss of their bio great gma.

Glad you have that sense of humor or you would not be you.

Yeah we have been though that gamit of docs-- the docs, including a neurologist blame her current issues on her meds,, and yea some of the side effects are similar to MS symptoms, but it does not all add up for me.

I am going to try and talk to doc into a referral to the MS clinic at UBC (local med school).

There's lots more I am am not saying here. She had already been diagnosed with (over the last 20 years) Panic disorder, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Bipolar, low Thyroid, IBS etc etc.

whatever...

I forgot my little heath surprise last month.. I am now allergic to peas... OK I never had an allergy in my life, last year I had some reaction to pollen -- I think (was a bad year last year here). Then out of the blue in early Nov I eat pea soup and --- hives. I have had everything else that was in it since, trust me it was the peas. I love peas, esp pea soup...

crud.

On the positive side we had our meetings with the girls teachers-- both are doing great, my youngest, who just started Kindergarten is blowing her teacher away-- she said she could go on all day talking about her and told us she'd like to clone us or our parenting style.
Little one is testing off the charts for her academic and social intelligence. She is already reading. She was telling em this morning how fog is formed. My little nerd-- we got her a microscope for xmas Smile

Ok brag over :)

Margeaux, good for you for opening up your home again! We are in a similar boat here--we have lost a lot of our caregivers and we have no room at the inn... the hardest are the teens-- and older kids.

EM- My eldest would trade you for the pea allergy. he abso;utely hates them and will only eat them under threat of no dessert.

Glad to hear the girls are doing well. Goes to show you what a stable home with alot of love and structure can do. I just can't see a kid sitting in a shelter at anytime especially during the holidays when I have beds and a crib going to waste.

We finally had to drive my dad to St Joes which is affiliated with Barrows Nuero to get a proper diagnosis. They also discovered beginning parkinsons because the Muhammad Ali Parkinsons center is there through Baroows. They did some testing and discovered that as well as his siezures and strokes. Since we have everything taken care of... he is like the same guy a few years ago. Prayers and thoughts to your partner for an accurate diagnosis. I can understand your struggle.

We can't have that! Smile we don't have shelters here-- I guess they are like a big group home? We have maybe 2 or 3 group homes for teens in the entire city of Vancouver-- and it's a pretty big city about 2 1/2 mill.

Usually a teen group home only has about 6-8 beds. So you are probably talking about a whole diff thing. We don't put kids uner 13 in a gorup home setting, they just don't exist--- thankfully. I'd foster if I could but they won't let me... when I retire in 12 years, if I have the energy I'll take in older teens. Very Happy yeah I'm nuts, I love the youth.

Here, group homes (shelters) are for all ages. They are generally divided by age and gender.

You would think they would want a great mom with experience and an education to be able to take in kiddos. Many of the case workers for our agency do foster care on the side. Our behaviorist and her partner take in troubled teens. Both ladies are a riot and can meet the kids on their level.

It’s cause we live in such a small town that we can’t foster-- if we were in the city we could take kids from the next area over, that kind of thing. Here I know pretty much all the kids we deal with..,. of course some of them I’d take in a heartbeat, others,,, not sure I’d be up for it.
