I just switched my future from fine arts to animal care/welfare. I have no 'professional' experience in animal care other than volunteering for local rescues and completion of NACAs level 1. However, I do have 10+ year of experience taking care of domestic, exotic, and wild animals. I've taken care of animals medically (diabetes, after surgery care, medications, hand feeding, etc) as well.
I've been searching for almost a year now for a job in animal welfare. I live in the nw Chicago suburbs so anything within the nw, n, w, and Chicago area would be perfect. I need suggestions as to what to do to get a foot in the door to get a job in animal welfare. Everywhere seems to only want people with 2+ years of prior experience in the field 'professionally'.
Can anyone help?
