Penny is a rescue breeder pom large at 22# (not over weight just a large "mama"---Last year she had a possible reaction the the vaccines she had so we are doing them spread out---rabis, kennel cough, the distemper group doesn't need til next year and on heart worm preventive after neg check --blood panel done in June the abnormals vet not real worried about --- was due for lepto and lymes ---she does not go into lakes etc and while we had a dog who got lepto they were a lake dog---- lymes / ticks I would like to prevent instead of treat but I don't want to over medicate either ---with her long fur ticks might have a hard time finding skin but then it is also hard to see if she has any ticks ---we have lots of deer and underbrush here so I would appreciate any feed back |

| Tick collars are bad not only do they not work well they can be toxic to your pet. Try flea/tick prevention like advantix. Those work well and it's just a liquid you put on their back once amonth. It does fleas ticks and repels Mosquitos. |

| What ever you do never use cheap flea killers that have permethrin/pyrethrin like BIO SPOT and HARTZ. these are very toxic you can find stuff all over the internet about these cheap flea and tick killers that cause lots of harm to animals sometimes even killing them. Here is a site showing the effects of this kind of stuff http://thekittyhut.com/blog1/2010/10/03/symptoms-of-flea-treatment-poisoning |

| Advantix contains permethrins. Permethrins are toxic to cats. Many cats die after being in even close proximity of a dog treated with Advantix. |

Please do not think that because Penny has a thick coat that the ticks won't get to the skin. I have groomed for close to 20 years now and the worst cases of ticks I have seen are on the thick coated dogs. I do not like tick collars due to the chemicals that are in them. Be careful when using combinations of chemicals since the wrong combination can be toxic also. _________________ \\\"It takes less time to do things right than to explain why you did it wrong."\\\

The Prevent Tick collar works better than Frontline for killing ticks, just keep in mind it offers no flea protection. You can use the Preventic collar with once a month topical flea protection.
It's active ingredient is Amitraz, not permethrin or pyrethrins!
Activity against ticks starts within 24 hours and continues as long as the collar is worn (up to 3 months). Ticks present in the dog's environment that may reappear on the dog will not attach and will be killed in less than 24 hours.
All of the Preventic collars- no matter their size, contain the same amount of the tick killing chemical. So if you find a really good price for the collar in the 25" collar size, but your dog would wear a 10" collar, just cut it down to the size you need. I called the collar's manufacturer (Virbac) for this information, as my dogs all wear Preventic collars. |

anyone ever try this. seems cheap but i have my doubts. |
The very existence of bio-energy is itself a matter a debate. The theory of a bioenergetic field remains an unsubstantiated hypothesis.
If you try it, let us know if it works! |

Thats because cats cant have permethrins they are toxic to them. There is no tick prevention for cats- so if you see it on a shelf in the store its not safe. Cats can use advantage but not advantix. Revolution would be best because it has heartworm prevention in it! |
