Post subject: Summer Camp Instructor - Rancho Santa Fe, CA

This is a seasonal (Summer) full-time position (Monday-Friday) at the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The HWAC is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Established in 1972, the world-renowned Center is dedicated to unique programs "where people help animals and animals help people" and has grown to serve 50,000 adults and children and 10,000 animals each year.

Must be available for summer camp from June 7th-August 13th

Teach and supervise a class of 15 students in a day camp setting. Ability to commit to teaching 10 weeks of camp (from June – August), including one week of training. Implement humane education and science-based curriculum following curriculum packets provided by the Center. Attend to the safety and well-being of children and animals at all times. Handle a variety of trained animals to allow children interaction with live animals in a positive environment. Utilize positive group management techniques. Supervise and direct teen-age volunteer aides. Provide excellent customer service to campers and their parents. Maintain compliance with HWAC policies and procedures. Perform all duties in accordance with established Center safety standards. Participate in Center activities and events as required. Complete other assignments as required.

Must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum high school diploma. Must have experience teaching and supervising children ages 4-12 years in classroom or day camp environment. Preferably someone with experience handling small mammals, birds, snakes, and farm animals. Upbeat attitude, enthusiastic personality and a strong sense of professionalism. Preferably someone with experience teaching outdoor, humane, or zoo education classes. Knowledge of interpretive techniques, learning styles, and child development stages. Ability to use positive techniques for handling disruptive people of any age. Position requires strong written and verbal skills, public speaking. Verifiable letters of recommendation from teacher/employer.
Salary: $10/hour
