Hi all,
About 2004, we adopted a tri-colour, male collie from the Collie Rescue and then in early 2005, we adopted from the same Rescue, a sable collie girl. We were members here then and had loads of help with these two from the kind folks here. I even was lucky enough to be around when the infamous Ebay was transported up to Canada and I was lucky to meet his foster mom.
We moved and life got busy and the dogs were our constant traveling buddies as we could be seen on the road down to Nova Scotia to see our growing family of grandchildren.
This past summer, we lost both our dogs who had reached 13.5 years and 11 years. The male simply got old on me and the female had succumbed to the years and years of crappy dog food fed to her by her previous family as her liver gave out. We cried buckets over them and there wasn't a day that went by that I didn't miss my boy and girl.
This past Saturday, we picked up our new adoption, a lovely 2 year old female blue merle, white factored collie. Life without a collie is simply no fun at all. So here we are again, with a new dog with new challenges and hoping that we'll get through them so we have a happy dog.
Branwen is such a lovely girl, very gentle but with a little dominance issues as we suspect came from her being a stray or maybe even ignored by who ever had her before. I've got her eating now, which is always a concern for an underweight dog. Her coat is a mess from near starvation - but it'll come back with good nutrition. So far, she has a few issues with other dogs while on leash - so we'll be working on that.
We had her at the vet today, and other than some dental concerns ( a little bit of tartar -nothing a good dental regime won't take care of) he was confident that she'll be a lovely, healthy girl.
