Post subject: Train to be an emergency responder! (Northwestern U.S.)

United Animal Nations (UAN) is offering a daylong workshop in Idaho Falls on Saturday, October 24 for people who want to care for animal victims of fires, floods, tornadoes and other emergencies.

The workshop will prepare people to volunteer with United Animal Nations’ Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS), which shelters, reunites and relocates animals displaced by natural disasters and other crises in the United States and Canada. EARS volunteers walk, feed and comfort animal disaster victims until they can be reunited with their families, placed in foster care or adopted into new homes.

Idaho Falls is one of only six cities in North America where UAN is offering an EARS training workshop in 2009; residents from throughout Idaho and surrounding states are encouraged to attend.

With nearly 5,000 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, UAN can respond when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving a large number of animals. So far in 2009, EARS volunteers have responded to 14 emergency situations -- including severe flooding in Fargo, North Dakota and the criminal seizure of 371 dogs from a puppy mill in Kennewick, Washington.

Workshop details:

WHEN: Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, 2270 Channing Way, Idaho Falls

COST: $60 per person in advance. Includes a volunteer t-shirt, official photo ID badge, certificate of completion, and comprehensive handbook that includes tips for making a personal disaster plan.

TO REGISTER: Visit www.uan.org.

Advance registration is required. Attendees must be at least 18 years old.
