I have been looking on Petfinder off and on for a long time but, recently decided to post on here so here goes.

I'm a volunteer with the Mass. Humane Society. I work mostly with the cat's in feeding, cleaning up, given meds and most important given them TLC! I am also a volunteer with the Rhode Island SPCA. I work with the dogs going for walks and teaching the ones that need it basic commands. Sit, stay and heel.

Right now I have three parakeets that I adopted from the SPCA they are Violet, Tweety and Woodstock. I left the names the last owners gave them. I love birds. I have had some since I was a little girl.
Then there are my boys! They have a story each on how I came to have all three. It started with a co-worker 2 years ago saying she needed to get rid of one of her three dogs. She couldn't afford the vets to get two of them fixed. I didn't like the way she said she needed to git rid of one. It sounded like she had to get rid of a bag of trash!
At that time I had my sweet Smokey a Black Lab who was 13 years old. (She has sinced passed away this Feb. I miss you baby and love you so much! ) I had been debating to get her a friend a dog younger to get the puppy in her out. So I told the co-worker I would take the dog.
In comes Qui a pure Bichon 2 years old and a ball of white fluff! When I went to pick him up he was so happy to meet me and seemed to know he was going home with me. Smokey as soon as he arrived let him know she was the boss and wouldn't take any lip from from. When he wanted to play with her he has the cutest yip. He would yip then do a wooowoo woooo Laughing She would chase him all over th place with her tail wagging. To get back at him she would chase him away from his food bowl and eat it or dump his water bowl with her paw!
A week goes by and I ask my co-worker how it's going. She said she got rid of another dog to her ex-husband bu was going to put down Qui's half brother down because she can't do the bills that was going to be needed for him. I asked what did she mean?! She said he has been pulling his fur out of his paws, muzzle and hind quaters and she can't take him to the vet and no one will want a dog looking like that! I didn't wait and said I would.
In comes Tyson 3 years old Bichon Poodle. She brought him to my house and I couldn't believe he was the same dog I saw at her house a week ago. He was all red and raw where he pulled his fur out. He was shaking and crying and curled up in a ball. It broke my heart to see him like that. Qui heard him and came rushing in. He did nose to nose with Tyson and what a change that came over Tyson! His tail started to wag and he was kissing Qui's face all over. Smokey gave a bark of welcome and saw what bad shape he was in and became a mother to him.
I knew what was wrong with him even before I saw the vet. He had missed Qui and was depressed so he ripped his fur out because he was so upset. Crying or Very sad His fur is much better now. It had grown in a darker shade at those spots then his normal cream color fur but, over the years it's allmost back to his real shade.
After Smokey passed away. They looked everywhere for her for a long time and missed big sister / mom. I knew I wanted to get a friend for them. t wouldn't be another Black Lab none could take her place but I wasn't also ready yet.
While working at the SPCA back in May I had got to know a pug terrier mix who was over weight and had skin problems and was 7 years old. In came Jake! He had been there for months and everyone passed him over once they saw his skin and his age. He was so sweet, trying everythin to get people to notice him He would take his favorite ball o the fence and look at the people as if to say..Look at me..I love to play! I'm a good boy. Please take me home! No one ever put in an application for him. I wanted him. I knew for along time he was for me but I wwasn't ready yet and I think he was saved for me.
The boys all get along and enjoy chasing each other. I think it was good that Jake is older then Qui and Tyson becaus I think they enjoyed the older sister / mom feel that they had with Smokey that she looked over them. Jake I wouldn't say looks after them but he is for sure the big brother that likes to bully them at times! Laughing
Jake had food allergies that the vet found out and so he is on certain food and was on meds that have cleared up the hard skin and the itchyness. The vet has me see how he does with out the meds to see if the food will be enough to control the skin. So far so good! Smile

Wellllllllllll thats my story! I hope no one fell asleep along the way! Embarassed Laughing

I look forward to posting on here and getting to know you all! Very Happy

Welcome and hello from Iowa.
I volunteer for a group here that helps elderly disabled and handicapped people keep their companion pet. We take supplemental food out every month and do spay/neuter/vet/etc when we have the funds. We just lately got 501c certified. Yaaay.

I am more of a cat person as I have 5 of them. I should be 20Paws but when I joined Petfinder I only had 4 cats. One I got from a private home, one as a companion for him from a county shelter. one I rescued when I was moving to another area, one was special needs that I adopted from MN at a shelter near my cousins and the last one I rescued in 2005. Whew! My special needs one was scared to death of most people and hid under my bed for 3 weeks hissing at me and it was 6 mos before I knew she should meow. It is sooo great to see her strutting around with the big fluffy tail in the air and telling me off cause am too slow getting breakfast! LOL The one I rescued in 2005 is the biggest one at 15-1/2 pounds - got him down 1/2 pound. He is the talkenist and biggest mush of a cat I have ever known. How he got to be a stray I will never know. His name is Augie the mush by the way. LOL ROFL

Idiot people never fail to surprise me. I am glad you were about to adopt those dogs and give tham a goood home!
