I was wondering if anybody had any advice for me.
I am new to petfinder and I am hoping to find someone who can help me rescue a German Sheperd dog who has been living outside of a convenience store in Jonesville, SC since around last Christmas, I believe.
I found a wonderful sounding dog sanctuary that is willing to take him in and I am willing to drive the dog to the place but I can use some assistance in "capturing" the dog since I have never done anything like this before and I am not sure how the dog will react.
the dog seems to be a friendly but as I said I am not sure how he would react in such a situation.
I also do not think it will be an easy thing to do since many people have tried to capture the dog before to take him home but have had no success.
If anybody can help or has any advice on where I can find someone to help me with this I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for the help. |

Is there animal control in your area that could help?
Can you start feeding him on a regular basis so he might come to trust you? |

hi....thanks so much for the responses and suggestions.
thanks for sharing the post with me, domshokay. that was a beautiful story.
Based on the story, it would seem that "capturing" the dog is quite a process. I am wondering if the traps are expensive. I don't have a whole lot of money. I wonder if there is anyway to do it without the traps.
In regards to your suggestion, whitetippedtails, I actually already feed this dog. I make a special trip out to feed him every other week. Supposedly there are others that feed him on a regular basis there. The dog knows me a bit by now and is happy to see me.
The sanctuary that is willing to take in the dog spoke against my using animal control. They said that they would not do it humanely.
They said that someone from Critter Connection might be able to help me with it and that I can ask for help through Pet Finder. That is what brought me here. I dont know if this is what the place was referring to. I find this website a bit confusing .
Thanks again for the posts. If anybody has any further advice to offer I would greatly appreciate it. |

| KFC I would simply ask AC or the Humane society if they had a humane trap you could borrow. Some AC's in Florida would let you borrow traps. Check with area rescues to see if anyone has one. if there are any wildlife groups in your area they also may have one you can use. What town and state are you in and I can also check for you if you'd like. |

| Try contacting Noah's Ark Rescue for help. They're in Greenville, SC. Website is www.noahs-arks.net They may have a humane cage for trapping the dog or know how to go about it. We had a dog that was petrified of people and he escaped and was in the woods. We put a humane trap down and put fresh MacDonald's food in it and he went in and the door shut behind him. We got him that way. |
