Lori from Pom rescue,
I think everyone understands that there is a process. It is the lack of communication that can get so frustrating. I too, have adopted two dogs from rescue about 8-10 yrs ago and both of them have passed away so I was wanting a new dog. Applied to the two breed rescues that were in our state for the breed we wanted. Took FOREVER for one to even respond and the other, I ended up having to call them. She even said, "Oh yeah, I saw your application last week". Um, yes, I know people are busy and they are volunteers but a quick 20 second email stating someone would be in touch would be much appreciated.
The one I had to call was the one we adopted from before. We ended up seeing exactly what we were looking for on PF from a local animal shelter. I went to see him and adopted him that day. He is wonderful.
The only reason I tried going with a rescue group again is b/c we have 4 indoor cats and the fact that they are in fosters and many times "cat tested" was appealing. However, the shelter agreed to "cat test" with the office cats and everything was fine. He ignores my cats.
Rescues are great but the lack of communication sounds like a common problem. Again, I understand about being busy but the communication with potential adopters (the whole point of the rescue is to get them adopted out to good homes) is very key. |
