Has anyone given the new formula to their dogs yet? Did they like it?
On another list I belong to, a lot of the hounds don't seem to like it that much. And the ones that did eat it, got the runny poops.
So what's your opinion of the new formula? _________________ --

My gang has funny colored, somewhat squishy poo, but maybe they are just adjusting to it.
The biggest problem we have had is the cost leaping up to 56 dollars for a 44 pound bag! California Natural now costs less per pound, so I will be switching. I think CA is a better food, anyway. _________________

Interesting you should ask... I just poped over to the website and they have it listed as "Improved for Taste, Palatability, Digestibility and Nutritional Value" on their main page. I snickered a bit when I read, "Look for New Brighter Packaging" - Callie doesn't care about the bag. My problem is that they say less carbs, but there seem to be more listed - oatmeal, potatoes, barley, and millet weren't in the old formula. Sure, they moved lamb meal ahead of the brown & white rice. It's no longer herring meal, but ocean fish meal. (What fish is my dog being asked to eat? Do they even know?) I'm also not sure why they want to feed inulin to dogs as it can cause gas and other digestive issues for humans who aren't used to it in their diets. (It's a fiber source for us.) Oh, and what's covered by "natural flavor" - are they embarassed to tell what they've put in there?
Anyhow, for the time being, we're switching to Taste of the Wild because I liked the ingredients list a little better and it's in the same price range. _________________

| I haven't gotten a new bag yet, I am still working on the old one, but after reading what Connie wrote, I do not think I will continue buying Canidae. I thought that "mystery" meal was an ingredient to stay away from. I guess I will have to spend some time at the feed store reading ingredient lists. Everything else gave her gas but there are probably a few I haven't tried. |

My dogs did not do well on the new formula. They were pooping at least twice as much and it was huge piles of mushy light colored poop. I am disappointed, my dogs did so well on it too.
I have switched to Natural Balance Potato & Duck formula and the poop problem is gone.
Everyone that I know is taking their dogs off of Canidae....I think their formula change is going to hurt them. _________________ If you can read this, thank a teacher.

| Mine are doing fine on it thus far. I had just switched them over to Canidae and went through one bag of the old formula, now I'm on the first bag of new formula. |

Oh, great. I had no idea they were changing the formula. We're still on the old formula here, but we'll need a new bag soon.
Benny did great on the old formula! I wish they wouldn't change it. The price was good, too. Ugh, why change something that was working fine before...
I just looked at the website. They increased the protein on the Platinum formula! That's the whole reason we were feeding Benny Canidae Platinum, was the low protein but high nutrition quality! Argh! He was doing so well on that. The behavioralist at Cornell recommended a low protein food for him and I can't remember exactly what the percentage she recommended was. The new formula's got 20%. The old one had 18%.
And since the protein's higher, he'll probably have to eat less to not get fat, which is just great since he's hungry all the time.
I think I'll tell my parents to buy a smaller bag when they try out this new formula. Just to test it. Or maybe the store will still have some bags of the old kind and I can just stock up... _________________

My beagle would probably eat wood chips if I put them in her bowl so I don't know if she is the best judge of whether it tastes good to dogs or not. _________________

Oh I'm sure Benny would eat the new stuff. It's just a matter of how he does on it.
But, my mom and bro went to the dog food store and found a 35 lb bag of the old stuff! Now we won't have to deal with this issue for another 4 months. _________________

So far Bailey seems to be doing fine. Nothing seems to have changed with her bowels. _________________

Mine are just finishing up a bag of the old formula. Too many people I know have complained about difficulties. I also don't like the fact that it's now being produced at Diamond plants.
I am switching. |

I didnt vote in the poll, because there wasnt a good choice for me. My dogs "liked" the new formula just fine, but they will eat just about anything, LOL. They think deer poop is a delicacy. However, I didnt like the effects of the new formula, so I took mine off of it. The last bag I bought was the new formula, apparantly, and I noticed a big difference in Riley's poops. They went from normal poo, to large piles of mud. It was gross. And he started going about three times a day. Kyndall didnt seem to be affected, though. We finished the whole bag, then switched.
It also went up in price, from $41 to $44 per bag. The price increase combined with Riley's nasty poo, and the fact that Diamond now makes it, made it an easy decision. I switched them back onto one of Natura's foods, and Riley's poop went back to normal immediately. And I dont have to worry about Diamond's quality control problem.
Most people that I have talked to, on message boards and also in real life, have switched their dogs to something different. The owner of the feed store I buy at also mentioned it when I went in for the new food.
Bad move, Canidae. |

I wonder if it would help to have a letter writing campaign to let Canidae know that customers aren't happy with the changes in the kibble and in our pets... _________________
