For those who use any sort of popper that takes cooking oil. what do you use to get the best flavor?

This question comes from my dh who is on a quest for better tasting popcorn without making it artery clogging. (His dad had bypass a short time ago, so I think he's starting to be more concerned about what he eats - not that he was atrocious before. He's definitely changed some habits since we got married, but he's looking to do more.)

I use the Orville Redenbacher stuff that is 94% fat free and microwaveable. It might not be the best, but it's only 1 point on WW. Oh, it's the mini bag.

I cook it in a (thick bottom) pot on the stove with a little Canola oil.

At home I put melted butter on it, but at my boyfriends place (where I make it the most) we use melted Smart Balance (either the regualr stuff or the light depending on what he happens to have). Then we add a little bit of salt. My boyfriend didn't eat popcorn much before, but when I started making it like that he got a little addicted so it must be edible. Laughing
I guess smart balance sell it's own popcorn now but I've never tried it.

personally myfavorite way to eat popcorn is atthe movies. I put loads of butter on it, then salt, then white cheddar seasoning. Going to movies is a treat, so I make it as unhealthy as possible Wink We're going to see The Strangers at 10:10, so I skipped dinner on purpose. I love movie night.

I love greasy, sweaty socks as much as the next person, but I just haven't been able to develop a love or even like of popcorn. I'm unAmerican, I reckon.

I love popcorn! I make it in a big pot on the stove with oil. After I pop it, I melt a half stick of butter and put Montreal Chcken seasoning all over it. Then I TRY not to eat the whole pot. Embarassed If I want some thing different, I put french fry seasoning on it. Or homemade caramel sauce. Oh how I love popcorn!

Thats funny. A company I used to clean for had a ban on microwave popcorn. They left a note to all employees. Some people have a strong aversion(sp) to the smell, not unlike the smell of BO. I thought it was the funniest thing, cause 1 guy in there had really bad BO.

I LOVE popcorn but haven't had it for awhile. we do have an air popper but it was really old so we threw it out.. I love kettle popcorn - we don't cook it we usually buy it store bought. we have a farmers market in the summertime here and they sell big bags of kettle popcorn the sweet and salty kind it's so good! Razz we usually buy the bags of lightly buttered popcorn to pop in the microwave.

I don't like the extra greasy popcorn but at the drive in they have good popcorn. the movie theatre has good popcorn but I watched a movie in the theaters with my cousin and she drenches it in butter at the movies it's gross! I love the cheddar popcorn they have in the CHristmas popcorn tins. and there's a company that sells white cheddar popcorn at the store already popped. LOVE it. now I will have to buy some white cheddar popcorn. Laughing it's kinda sweet and salty. Very Happy

I'm eating rocky road ice cream right now but maybe i will have some popcorn tomorrow night. i think we're gonna rent 27 dresses. Smile

I used to work at a movie theater, so I couldnt eat popcorn for years after.

I like microwave kettle corn, and I have an air popper. I find the stuff on the stove is often too burned for me

Like Caroline, I also worked at a movie theater for years and after leaving there it was a long time before I could eat popcorn again. I use the Oville Redenbacker microwave ones, either the ones that are butter, extra butter, or movie theater butter.

My mom had one of the ones you put oil in to pop it. However it died years ago. That was the best homemade type.

Years ago, my best friend's grandmother made us popcorn on the stove and used bacon grease to pop it with. It was great but I'd never do that now because I know how unhealthy it is. Oh to be young again.......
