This is Max, she died in Feburary at age 13 - she was an awesome dog...

Before Max died I asked her if she'd see to it when she got to heaven that a dog just as special as her, one who needed us as much as we need them, would enter our lives....

In April this little girl, Kacy, showed up on the Humane Society of Randolph County (NC) webpage and we adopted her - she looks like a Mini Max, and has a lot of Max's characteristics yet has her own unique personality. There is no doubt that this dog was meant for us. Max kept her promise Smile

In addition to Kacy, we also have two parakeets named Archie (the green one) and Edith (the blue one).

I'd love to have another dog but our current situation only allows us to have one. In a few years I hope to be able to foster rescued dogs.

I'm brand spankin' new, but of course I have to brag on my furries.... lol

Right now, I actually don't have any pets of my own...I know..shocking! But I'm in a transitional stage just now; a still fairly new widow who's moved cross country to a new city, new job and hopefully, a new life.

However....for the moment, I'm living with my son while I find a townhome (one that allows pets, of course), so I have the companionship and love of my grandbabies....rescue alumni, every one of them.

First there's Buddy, a 10-year old poodle+something else who is the kindest and gentlest soul I know. He became a part of the family 2 years ago because he was on death row and my son just couldn't leave him there.

Next is Quinn, the 10-month old BC. Talk about lightning in a bottle! lol She's full of energy, and equally full of love. My son found her wandering on a country road when she was about 10 weeks old, we estimate. After weeks of trying to find her owner, SHE made the decision to adopt HIM. Wink

Then there are the cat brothers, Jackson (grey tabby and white) and Harvey Greypants (solid grey Maine Coon mix). They may be brothers-from-another-mother, but they are inseparable. They were caged together at the shelter as kittens and bonded deeply. You will never see one without the other in close proximity. Jackson is very aloof and Garfieldesque, but he likes to follow you around the house 'talking' to you. Grey is a snuggler who loves to 'groom' us by licking our eyebrows! What a nut.

I've had literally hundreds of furbabies over the many years, because I fostered for a long time, but it has been my Irishers (Snoopy, Red Baron and Vanessa Reddog) who 'owned' my heart. Once you've been owned by a redhead, there's no going back!

As soon as the ink is dry on the lease to my townhome when I secure it, my first step will be to rescue a 'death row' inmate or two, because a new house, no matter how nice it may be, is not a home until there is at least one four-legged denizen waiting for you when you turn the key in the door at the end of the day.

I have 3 dogs:
Callie, a 4(ish) year old fawn Boxer/Beagle (?) mix, very sweet, very barky, loves kids, is the 'Mommy' animal of our house, she adopts everyone who comes in and makes them feel comfortable. She's awesome with puppies and senior fosters, and with kids who are afraid of dogs.

Carell, almost 3 year old white Boxer. She's deaf, knows a ton of signs, goofy, playful, rowdy, but well-behaved for the most part. She loves everyone she meets - she is a really bad guard dog.

Shadow, age unknown, small black terrier mix, she was a stray my inlaws found early in July and no one claimed her, no one reported her lost, so she got to stay with us. She's about 9 pounds, tiny, loves the kids and plays with the dogs, hates to have her feet touching the ground. Sweet but bossy - always nudging for pets and doing the uppy uppy dance.

2 Cats:
Sky, medium haired black and white spotted cat, she thinks she's a dog and when people come in to work on the new house, she follows them around so she can report on anything they do wrong. Her best friend is Carell - they wrestle and play constantly.

Squawk, grey tabby male, noisy when he wants attention but very laid back, lazy almost. He's sweet, likes to be cuddled and carried around like a baby. He follows my kids around constantly.

A Degu, about 3 years old, who we brought home from Canada along with his brother, who died last year. Sad The Degu's name is Degu, and he's pretty tame. He loves his ears scratched.

A lizard, a Mali Uromastyx, who is a hoot - my kids play with her all the time, she's very tame and loves to come out of her tank and interact.

Perry the Parakeet, semi-tame, young, blue. He was a Craigslist find and knows 'step up' but is picky about who he interacts with.

I also sort of have a Tennessee Walker named Bourbon, he belongs to my mother in law but I can ride him whenever I want, and in my heart and his, he belongs to me. He loves me, and the feeling is definitely mutual. He's a big (16 hands) bay, and will do anything on earth I ask of him. He's built like a tank and can carry my fat butt all day long without feeling it. Embarassed

ok here it goes lol I have 5 dogs, 8 cats, a pirahna, and a snake (all rescues)
DOGS-
Havoc is a pit bull
Epona is a pit bull I rescued from HORRIBLE conditions (she was 7 months old and weighed 15lbs) you could see every bone in her body and she had no hair from flea infestation, scars, and mange. She is now healthy and fat and visits nursing homes every sunday.
Bundy is a pit bull who was going back to the high kill shelter where they usually don't adopt out pit bulls but I intervened and took him home
Norma Jean is a Pitweiler (1/2 pit 1/2 rott) I saved her from being beaten to death because she wasn't full blodded so he couldn't make money off of her
Nola is a heinz 57 we got after we took in a mom and her 13 puppies so they wouldn't go to the pound we kept Nola and her brother who is deceased.

CATS
Lavey came out of a barn with a severe eye cold
Allister the dogs were barking one day soon after we got Lavey so I opened the door to see what it was and this little black kitten just strolled in and made herself at home so she stayed lol she is now the queen of the house all of the other animals fear her (even the dogs)
Marduk We got him when he was about 4 weeks old after the neighbors got him and then threw him out because he wasn't litter trained and he cried all of the time (duh he was only 4 weeks old and they were trying to feed him dry food) so we took him in and bottle fed him... he's now the fattest cat in the world lol
Krug and Ruby These guys are brother and sister ms Allister got outside 2 weeks before her spay date and met the tomcat outside. She had 7 kittens and we planned on keeping Krug and Ruby went to a very good friend of ours but he passed away soon after so we took her back in.
Azrael we got Azrael after his mom was hit by a car. He and his brother were 2 weeks old so we took them in and bottle fed him. He was born with NO HAIR except for tiny patches. They also had severe colds. We found a home for his brother with a friend (he's evil now lol) but no one wanted little razzle because he was so ugly so we kept him and he's not beautiful he is a long haired orange poofball but his hair looks like it's crimped.
Tron and Poof Butt These guys are both outside (they don't want to come in. They sleep in the shed where we put a cat door but they don't like to be trapped. They were both totally feral when they showed up but after a few months of feeding and creeping closer and closer they are both tame now. Tron is an attention hog and toe licker. Poof Butt looks to be a full blooded Persian. I don't know what she was doing running around
Pete is the pirahna we got him after a friend called and said this guy wnated to throw him in a pond.
Snake I just got him a couple days ago he is a red tail boa. Some kids bought him at the pet store then forgot to close his tank he got out and was gone for 3 months before he resurfaced. When he showed back up he was totally wild so they didn't want him anymore. I take him out every day several times a day and hold him and in 3 days he's already started to tame down.

That's my zoo for right now thankfully we have the space and the time for these guys because I would hate to know where they would be with out us
